Converting M4 skins to G2M

So I bought the batch converter to convert my m4 skins to Genesis 2 males.  Not entirey sure what I am supposed to be doing.  And how do I find the actual files for the skins?  They seem to be a bit all over the place.  Do I have to change them to a .duf file first/

And once they are converted do I need to do anything special to use them or will the m4 uvs for Gen2m apply automatically?

Well I do know they need to be opened on the original intended figure if you don't have the batch converter you bough & then saved in DUF format, but that's what the batch autoconverter is supposed to do for you.

I would look at the documents for the batch converter for where it put those...surely all in one location like the 'Presets'/'Materials' folder I'd guess.  Or ask the batch converter product developer.

When I manually convert a texture to DUF & I do so for V4 & M4 to Genesis, Genesis 2, & Genesis 3 it is only converted to DUF format and to use it I have to use the products that add a new UV set to a figure (eg M4 to Genesis 3 Male by Cayman Studios) or other developers like MallenLane V4 to Genesis 2. I have the 4th Gen to Genesis 2 product but I don't remember what developer made them anymore but you need to apple to M4 or V4 UVs to the Genesis 2 characters as well. There is a UV convert preset in the Materials folder in the Content Library/Genesis 2 Female & Genesis 2 Male if you have the product I have. Also once added, you can go to the Sufaces Tab and manually change the chosen UVs for each surface using the grey dropdown mune near the bottom of the surface tab pane.

    HI Sonja

I think you need this product to actually use the converted textures on G2M.

It's been a while since I've played with the batch converter. I know that it will convert a single texture or a whole folder. Just make sure that the textures that you want to convert are in a supported format. The first time I tried to use the batch conveter, I picked a file type that wasn't supported and I thought that the script didn't work. You could also just load up a texture and then save it as a duf file without the batch converter. But it does make it quicker and easier.

There might also be a product from Cayman Studios for M4 to Genesis 2. I know there is one for M4 to Genesis 3. And the textures need to be in duf format to use them there as well.

If you search for a thread on Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male, I think you find a lot of helpful information. Ditto for the Caymen products.

I went and checked and I didn't see a Cayman product for using M4 on Genesis 2. But there is that product from Sloshwerks.

I do have the M4 for Genesis 2 male as well as the V4 for Genesis 2 Female.  I finally tracked down one of my m4 skins and it looks like it did what it was supposed to do but of course, by then, it was far to late to test it out lol.  I will do a bit more research as well and see if I can figure it out.

Easiest way I know of to find the textures is to load M4 and apply the texture you want to convert and then go to the Surface Tab. Click on one of the textures like you want to change it. A list should open. There should be BROWSE at the top of the list If you click on it, it will take you to the folder where the texture you are using is locations. You can then jot down the path.

I think you can do the same thing in the Smart Content by right clicking on an icon and then browse to file location. (Not sure exactly what it is called.)

Can't remember if it also works in the Content Library.

    Great thanks!

  • My method of putting M4 textures on G2 is this:

    • Load M4, put the required texture on him.
    • Save as a materials preset.
    • Load a G2M and select him
    • Apply the materials preset to the G2M (it will look strange)
    • Go to the surfaces tab and change the UV from Base Male to M4.

Now, this method only copies one set of features, so if your chosen M4 skin has lots of different eye colours, make up options, etc. You're probably better off using the batch converter which (presumably) creates stand-alone material components that can be applied directly to a G2M.

I'm not too bothered about having all the options, and I'm a 100% G2 iray shop - so any M4s I pick up get the above treatment + an Iray autoconverter for their materials, genX for the morph, load the whole lot on a G2M and save him as a scene subset. Then I just load the saved G2M whenever I want to use that character.
