can you you change a section of G3 hair colour?

I am trying to change a G3F hair colour from all blonde pigtails to these 2 pigtail colours in pic below (for a Harley Quinn render)
Is it possible to do this at all? please tell me how if so.

depends on if the tails are mapped seperately and don't share the same material zone, then UHT2 shaders by sloshwerks will do that and the addon for it has those colors
You can use the geometry-editor tool to make them a separate material zone (UV-mapping is retained) - just reapply the same texture/specular/ec maps afterwards (by 'copy and paste' surface settings) and change the diffuse colour to pink/blue/whatever.
With Iray, there is a cool tool called "New Iray Decal Node", in the "Create" menu.
Attach it to the hair, position it to the tails and apply an image to the materials.
I would suggest a solid color with an opacity-map (Transparency where the color should fade to the actual hair-color.) You are only going for a "tint" of color, so it should be mostly transparent, beyond the opacity-map.
