has Iray render time with Daz 4.9 been speeded up?

I haver recently updated to Daz 4.9 and am just trying to render a basic image with Iray but I notice there does not appear to be a preview screen and the time seems to be a lot less longer. Is it supposed to be like this since 4.9? just want to make sure I am not doing something different without knowing.

It has been with the latest Public Beta but not enough for you to not want the latest video card HW to speed things up.

Check your render settings - if you're rendering to file (as opposed to 'new window') then speed will be a little faster as you don't get the display calculated at the same time.

Can you tell me how to check if I am rendering to file rather than new window please? a screenshot of the selection would be appreciated.

    Render Settings > General

Click the little down arrow in Render Target and change to which one you want.

For Direct to Image, give it a name and pick the format in the next box down.  And set where to save it, in the box beneath that one.

    I understand now. Thankyou :)

...I ran a few tests recently (CPU mode) using the same scenes in both 4.8 and one of the 4.9 betas and noticed that there is a performance improvement. particularly during the preliminary calculation phase (before anything appears in the render window). One scene that took over 40 min just for the calculation phase took about half that time in 4.9.

In another test with a different scene, rendering in the beta finished 44 min sooner than in 4.8.
