how to transfer DAZ to a new PC

So I have a new PC and all of my DAZ is on another HDD. Is there a tutorial on transfering everything over to the new PC?

Thanks

I'm assuming you mean all your content...if you also mean the program itself, don't bother trying to use the old install.  Just download and install the program from your account and go from there.

If your content was a separate drive (lets' pick E, for the drive letter), simply move that drive to the new machine.  Then make sure it's still E (looking in Windows).  If it is, then simply go into your freshly installed program and in Content Directory Manager point everything to E and the folders it was...you can even create a text file on the old machine and  copy the paths into it...then on the new machine simply copy the paths out of that text file. You'll also need to do the same for DIM.  If you are using Connect, also, you'll need to authorize the new machine...some people keep their content on an external drive just for this reason.

Now if it's not a separate drive, it can get a bit more complicated...or easier.  You'll need to export any custom/user categories and such from the old install and then you can simply copy (as long as you match the path...the user doesn't have match, but everything else does...).  Then after copying, just reimport your user data.

There will probably be several other respones...

Thank you for sharing the info. I have all my content on my old PC HDD. My Daz Progam 4.8 all the products and other products not bought from DAZ. And everything else for that matter is all on the same drive etc.   It's in folders all on the same drive.

I just want all that stuff, the DAZ program and all content migrated to my new SSD. ,I dont want anything left on my old HDD.  I have nothing customized. Is your method going to do it? I can find folders related to DAZ but im not expert at it or extremely familiar to it. so i dont want to miss something.

    Thanks again

Ok..this is going to be a bit more complicated.  One because all the base content has been through at least 1 update since 4.8...

How did you install all the Daz store/base content on the old machine?

Just a note of warning - watch your default settings for OneDrive and DAZ, DAZ wants to place your library in your MY DOCUMENT folder, which on many NEW PC backups to the OneDrive and will fill up with your content.

I built a new PC a few months back. before it arrived I backed up my poser runtimes and my DAZ folder in my documents where all the DS content was to an external drive. When I got the new PC set up, I installed DS, transferred the backup content to the new PC and then set of the content library paths just as I did with the old PC version and all worked fine. FYI I don't use smart content, DIM or connect and all installs are manual.

I installed daz online using DIM. But I also got other content from other sites and did it manually. I never used OneDrive before.  Hopefully there is a step by step process. Probably isn't that difficult?

I got a problem in the same ballpark.  When I originally installed Daz I had no idea I was going to go overboard and end up with several gigs of contents devoted to it, so I let it install into my C Drive.  Now I'm thinking Daz needs a drive to itself.  Is there any way to simply move the folder and remap everything?

i will just copy all my old daz programs on my new computer and seperate new SSD

I will then copy all the old folders over the new SSD. Thats it.

If you used Poser content in your scenes DazStudio made internal /data/ folders and files "auto_adapted" - make sure you are transferring those too!

Yes Im glad  you said that about the auto adapted files! There is a problem with an error like that when I load some scenes  .duf  I do have some poser content as well. I am not sure but I have two autodapted folders with the same files. I didn't transfer something right ? Could you assist? Thank you

I did do a fresh Daz Install latest version onto my SSD and re-install using DIM. Then copied all Daz folders I could find on my old HDD to my new SDD. Some things work without error but some do not.

i posted screen shots here on another post

  • Is there a content migration step x step for 4.8 to 4.9 ?  I've stuck with 4.8 after reading that custom categories are destroyed in the content manager.  I can't have that happen so haven't upgraded yet.

  • I have the same issue. I have a 3 year old HP Pavillion , I just bought an Acer Nitro as an upgrade. Is there a simple step by step method to transfer Daz3d? This is all very confusing. I am a very novice user. I installed Daz directly to the C drive on the Pavillion. I have never purchased anything but content from the Daz store and used DIM to install it. What is the most "this is a screwdriver, you hold the plastic end" way to move to the new pc?  Thank you everyone in advance.
