Bummer, I always liked him, especially his role in The Magnificent Seven, both the original and the 90's version.

    R.I.P.

    ...Farewell Mr Solo.

I remember watching that show almost religiously. A bunch of us in school even made up our own U.N.C.L.E. badges.

That was back in the James Bond spy mania era.  He later showed up cast as historical presidents or as corrupt politicians and businessmen.  You could love him or hate him with equal ease. surprise

Yesterday (I think) it was Leonard Cohen and now this ... the year started crap, and it looks to be ending the same way :(

  • My friend and I would use her Vac-u-Form to make our U.N.C.L.E. badges. And I would use my Dad's old business cards to make our ID Cards... U.N.C.L.E was a big part of my childhood, and I loved Napoleon Solo!

Another one of my youth has passed on, and I keep feeling older every time.

    RIP Napoleon/Robert

I only remember the opening credits, ending credits and what the 2 main actors looked like. I also remember the opening and closing credits of the Avengers and what those too main actors looked like. Same with Get Smart. I do remember short portions of a couple of Speed Racer episodes though and Speed Racer, Racer X, Trixie, Sprito but I forget the Chimp's name and the the name of their father (the fat guy).

Gosh, I'd forgotten about the U.N.C.L.E. badges! had the Corgi car too, with the roof clicker that made Solo or Kuriakin pop out the side windows with their guns. Bullet holes in the windscreen too, if I remember.

Loved Vaugn in Hustle too, was only watching reruns a couple of weeks ago. RIP :(

The thing I always remember was that Robert Vaughn was intended to be the UNCLE 'heartthrob', but lots of teenage girls preferred Ilya Kuriakin, so David McCallum ended up on their walls instead. LOL.

I admit to preferring Illya Kuriakin,   I think it was the accent.   A scots guy playing a russian    lol

Yeah, as if that'd even happen again ... ;)  And I preferred McCallum too.

I had to think who the thread was referring to, I haven't seen reruns of that show in years. I'm sure it's still on some of the cable networks somewhere. Great show! We always looked forward to seeing it. Agreed, Robert did play some wonderful roles. Could really give a good penetrating stare.

And McCallum is still going too, what with NCIS. (he must be in his 80s now?)

Man From Uncle was required viewing when I was a kid.  Loved that showed.

And yet more of my childhood icons leave the stage.

No heartthrob for me.  I watched for those brief moments when Leo G. Carroll  (Mr. Waverly) was on screen. cheeky

    Guilty. blush

I remember seeing Vaughn in a movie on TV, Teenage Cave Man, sometime after Man from U.N.C.L.E. aired. I was quite surprised. The movie had a twist ending. I was young, and the movie didn't seem all that bad. lol... Anyway, Robert Vaughn was a big part of my youth, and I it's sad to say goodbye.

And they played on that in the made-for-tv movie, with Solo in retirement as single playboy-type not having any luck with the ladies and Kuriakin now a noted fashion designer up to his arms in good-looking ladies.

Yep, caught that movie a few months ago.  ROFL.  It's always fun to see stars before they were stars, and just paying their dues. laugh
