  Im not sure what to tell you about backwards compatibility. To be honest ive never actually tried to fit current stuff on older models.

  Genesis 2 clothing can be autofitted to the same-gender Genesis 3 figure with no extra products needed. Wear Them All gives you everything else to Genesis 3. Sickleyield has autofit clones to take Genesis 3 and Genesis 2 clothing to Genesis 1; while valzheimer has them for Genesis 3 to Genesis 2. It is not possible to autofit newer clothing to V4 within Studio, but I believe it's possible to convert the Genesis line's clothing to her using Crossdresser.
