Skin resolution seems to differ

In my viewport I clearly see the little beardhair details in the neck. After rendering I see the resolution seems to be less in the render though, as the details have been washed out. Using the newest DAZ Studio 4.9 in combination with the latest version of Reality 4. (see pictures) I am aware that the render I am showing in this picture hasn't been done in a high resolution (750x750), but even after I cranked it up to 1500x1500, the difference even got bigger. In my image you can clearly see that details are washed out under the neckline. I have DOF disabled by the way so that can't be the issue.

Any idea what's going on here?

How does it look in 3Delight or Iray ?

By default Iray has the Pixel filter set to Gaussian and a radius of 1.5.  3DL uses a different filter and width.  The viewport is basically unfiltered.

What this boils down to is that unless you are rendering at a sufficiently large resolution, minor details will end up blurred.

Thanks for your input, but I am using Reality, not Iray. Does it still stand?
I'll try and make a render with another renderengine and see what it does.

Each renderer has a filter...and if the detail is smaller than the filter width, it will blur.

For Luxrender, your choices should be box, triangle, gaussian, mitchell and sinc...box and triangle will be the 'roughest'  and gaussian the 'softest' (usually).

I typically use Mitchell with Luxrender.

Totally new info for me! I will look into it, thank you

I think different cameras/camera settings can effect detail like that as well.
