Missing Files

I have been coming across this a bit more frequently than I would like and would like to know why its happening and what I need to do to get it to stop. These files were here, they were cataloged into my categories so they were correct at some point. Why and how did they all of a sudden go missing? The files are there, by they way, in the same spot they were when DIM originally downloaded them. I haven't moved them or done anything else to them. Its a hassle to go to my custom category and all of a sudden the files are not there.

The DIM download location is not the same as where you configure DIM to install those downloaded files to. I just checked my Bree files at that location and they are there along with the icons. I did recently have to relocate all my Content Libraries from a 128GB USB Flash Drive to a USB External Drive but for that I just copied the Content Library to the same relative location on the external HD and then changed the drive letter of the external USB to be the same as the drive letter for the no longer used 128GB USB Flash Drive.
I didn't configure it to download anywhere but the default. I do custom categories but that does move the base file location. And those files were just fine for months and now they are not. I haven't changed anything nor have I moved anything. Custom categories don't move the files they just add a link. The screen shot shows the DIM downloaded files where it put them by default.
As I'm going through my library I am running across more and more of these. I've now run into at least 4 items that have the missing files icon even though the files have not moved from where DIM installed them.
Where is your content installed? Can you check Content DIrectory Manager and make sure the locations haven't changed?
Its all still where its supposed to be. If I follow the link (right click to browse to file location) the content is there. I haven't moved it, but its like it isn't seeing it. Its in the right folders in myDaz3DLibrary folder too. Refreshing doesn't help. I think I'm going to restart my pc and go to bed. I have to work all day tomorrow so I won't get back to this til after dinner tomorrow. I will let you know if restarting helps. I will also try re importing meta data tomorrow when I get home from work although it didn't work tonight. Will also try uninstalling and re installing if all else fails although I would prefer not to have to do that.
Usually only plugin errors require reinstalling...
Is the install location on an external drive? Sometiems those can end up with a different drive letter assigned, which will make the path wrong. However, in you case I think the files are there - it's the icon/thumbnail that appears to be missing.
No external drive. Straight up C drive and like I said, I haven't moved anything, the only thing I have been doing is downloading my new content from the pc+ sale (via DIM, no changes in location, same as I have always done it) and then putting everything into my custom categories (not moving base files, just creating the link for the custom categories) If I click on the ones that have the triangle I get a message that says some or all of the files are missing. But they are not, they are right where they were before the broken link icon showed up
Have you recently installed any freebies? (Not ones from Daz)
Just the RDNA ones that are here at DAZ.
Scroll the folder tree at the top left so we can see the whole structure, from DAZ Studio Formats down to the folder being viewed. There seems to be too much not showing, judging by the size of the scroll bar, for the path length I'd expect.
Will have to do that when I get home from work later tonight.
Okay I think this is what you are looking for. No matter how I displayed it, this seemed to be the way to show the path in the least amount of screen shots. I clearly have far too much product.... The last one, the rest of the path to the missing files for the PHOT accessories is genesis/clothes/PHOTs/ Fantasy Acc
OK, that looks to be set at the right level - so my vague inkling of what might be happening goes out of the window. Are the items giving an error if you try to load them?
Yes I am getting a missing files error. Depending on which item, it might load anyway or it might not. I re imported the meta data for V5 and that fixed her errors. However, that did not work for the PHOTS accessories. I will try re installing that particular set of files via dim and see if that does it. Just not sure why its happening, as I learned my lesson the last time and don't touch anything in the original files section, and just let DIM handle all of it.
What's the exact error message? Have you checked your hard drive?
Here is the error message. Its prompting me to download through smart content (which I NEVER use). The second screenshot shows the files that the icons lead to when you right click and select browse to file location. As you can see the files are there.
So it seems that in order to fix the missing links I have to uninstall and reinstall each product with the missing files. Nothing else works. DIM says they are there and installed. This is the second time this has happened in six months. Clearly, something is going wrong. I've also started noticing a couple on my laptop which is running 4.8 not 4.9. completely separate systems. I do use DIM to install on both.
