...I thought there was an an alternate texture set for the G2M Western Outlaw but have not been able to find it (though could be due to the suite issues we have been experiencing over the last couple weeks).

I couldn't find any either - these are all I could find:

...bigger. They came out with alternate texture sets for the Gen4 version as well as G3M one but nothing for the G2M one. I was hoping there would be black and grey textures as the default brown one is kind of hideious.
As the seams and stitching are part of the texture map, just using the Fabricator or Iray leather/cloth shaders is no good as both overwrite the seam/stitch patterns. No way to change the colour as even with darkening the diffuse channel, it is still "brown" not "black" and there is no way to get a grey colour without designing your own custom textures (which is out of my area of expertise).
Using the Hue/Saturation/Value adjustment sliders (in your 2D program) should give you a full range of tertiary colours for those textures and still leave the stitching and seams relatively unaffected.
Here's a quick 3DL render of the clothing redone and I've a IRay in the oven I'll attach .... some time :(
...which programme did you use?
I'm just a bit surprised there wasn't a set of alternate maps for the G2M version as there were for the Gen4 and G3M ones. I specifically got this for illustrations of my namsake character.
I thought of using using Wanted DOA for M4/H4 as it has different texture options, but there is no M4 to G2F fit option in autofit (there is a G2M option)
That was with Paint.net but PSP and PS have the same options although I can't find them in Painter, probably just buried.
Have attached IRay image above. Sloppy material conversion but never mind.
It's actually suprisingly easy. Just go to the file with the texture, open the texture in Gimp, Paint, Photoshop, or any other art or photo editing program, and lower the hue/saturation until it's grey. Save it, and bam, grey texture. :)
I would recommend keeping a copy of the original, non-edited texture - just incase you don't like the changes. :)
You can also adjust how light or dark the gray is. In Photoshop, at least, there is a "lightness" slider in the Hue/Saturation adjustment. Then in DS, use the Base Color to colorize the gray texture.
...thank you all for your suggestions.
Still stymied by why there was never an add on texture product. like there was for the other generation versions. Was G2M that much of a red headed stepchild?
I often put some of the older textures into Photoshop and create bump or normal maps where there aren't any, but I never even thought about the hue/saturation adjustments, even though I do that all the time with my photos. Great tips.
One pointer with 3DL renders, while you can generally use the original mat settings you will need to tweak Velvet and often Shadow, Specular etc to suit the new Diffuse colour.
...don't have PS.
Gimp creates them also
...well turns out the whole idea is a wash as when I load the duster on one of my G3F characters, there is a noticeable distortion in the back of the coat just above the character's butt. Tried everything I could do to smooth it out but no good. It isn't caused by the gunbelt as the holster is on the right side. Even removing the gunbelt doesn't help.
So I went to plan "B", created wearables presets for the old Wanted DOA set using Genesis (set up as a female) as the base then applied them to my G3F figure, and it looks much better. As I have western boots that fit G3F, didn't need to transfer the DOA boots (Seems when I try to autofit pre Genesis footwear, it distorts badly when I try to fit it to the Genesis base), The only items I kept from the Outlaw set were the hat and gloves. and I adjusted the colours on them (figured out how to do it in Gimp).
I actually like it as it sort of gives her that "Doc Holliday" look from the film Tombstone. (need to find a tin cup).
