Here is an interesting BBC article about a digital Japanese girl creation and how real she looks.

That was interesting, but a little creepy. They talk like they want her to be built outside of the computer at the end. Like maybe an actual android with an AI. It is kind of scary to think how close we actually are to something like that happening.
Oh, geez! If only! I wouldn't mind a new body if I could keep the rest of what makes me, uh, me. :)
But how would the "you" you are now even know? A copy of your consciousness for all practical purposes would be you, but it wouldn't be the original you, thing is how could you know if your consciousness had been copied or transferred?
Ah, there in then lays a true conundrum! :) I probably wouldn't know. I could be copied and transferred to another body and this current one could go on and any memories from this point on would be different. The question is "Is that still me? or is that now someone else, but with all of my previous memories and thoughts?" Considering I'm an identical twin adds an even more curious angle to the whole question.
Check yourself for manufacturing logos or warranty stickers, just in case. :-)
What if you had committed a crime before the tranfer . . . would both of you be liable? Would the android you be liable if the original died?
Almost there. check out Chihira Aico
Ah, good idea. You never know when one might pop up. ;)
Ah, and now a legal conundrum! :) Might make for an interesting story idea some day! I'll keep that one in mind. :)
I had no idea they were even that close! Thanks for the link. It was very enlightening!
The mouth looks a bit pouty for me, and I certainly wouldn't think she looks 17, she looks younger to me.
The sad reality is that the porn industry will likely drive the android industry. Seems inevitable.
Wouldn't be surprised. The models are almost there. Companies in japan, Europe and several in the U.S. sell very realistic looking life size dolls and some tech firms are working on combining A.I. with them. Be interesting to see what they come up with
She's Asian.
My flesh is crawling right now.
Looking at the photo you would be thinking it was a real person it is so well created.. Looks like the world that Bladerunner was based on is coming and quite fast so it seems..
What the hell... when did I get a tattoo that said Made In Canada / Fabrique au Canada?
I cracked up at this! It reminds me of all the dual language signs and notices I see whenever I visit Canada. :)
...hmm when I scan the barcode I found on my upper arm it says Produced in Croatia.
...and why do I see a young freckled red haired girl's face when I look in the mirror (and why do I suddenly have this urge to giggle when I see things explode)?
Man Google really do make all sorts of hardware these days.
I'm surprised so many people (especially on a CG forum) think that it's creepy. Or even all that newsworthy. There's been quite a lot of CG that looks passable for real now - except as the article says in the animation which gives it away.
This ^
Lots of people think it's creepy simply because we are told we are supposed to think it's creepy.
For a few decades now there has been this neo-Luddite attitude from the larger society; and from those who feel economically threatened concerning technology mimicing things that we think are excluscively "human" endeavors, or innately human attributes. The idea that CG could one day replace actors, that vocaloids may one day successfully replace singers, that your local fast food chain may become automated thus eliminating bad service from some bored nebbish who thinks he should be paid like a google software engineer, has a lot of people reaching for their pitchforks.
Yeah people who engage in the art of CG shouldn't be towing the party line on the "creepy factor" of CGI, or robotics, and certainly not while with the same breath demanding more realistic figures and textures from a company like Daz.
Scarey only if you want to be afraid. The edge of the eyelids look wrong.
Ha Ha
Wow, super cool article. Thanks for sharing. I think Virtual_World would have a blast playing with her. =D
Yes that is what stood out immediately for me as well
very subtle but just a little too sharp of an edge on that lower eyelid.
Hey, just because I think it's creepy, doesn't mean that's necessarily a bad thing! Creepy can be very, very good! :) You just have to learn to embrace the creepy! ;)
What Knitting said. =D
Embrace the creepy!!! http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/141031122744-elam-creepy-clown-copycats-go-global-01-story-top.png
On the matter of "Creepy", be thankful some of the more commonly used internet "emoticons"
are not Photoreal
.........
Close?
Whats the number of definitions of intelligence these days? Like..63? lol So, artificial one would be "artificial - we are not quite sure what - one". Like, making artificial invisible man nobody has ever seen, so, ofc, we mimic the effects. Pretty badly for now, since it takes about x (insert 1 digit number here) seconds to notice that we are not quite there jet. But..close.
And that "economic propaganda" language these days. Like calling a doll with internal wiring (in contrast to external one - yay success) and internal "tape" recording (in contrast to puppeteer speaking) a "communication android". With same communication capabilities as average TV. So we actually can talk to it. With same effect as arguing with our favourite TV show. But it almost looks like human, less so if it moves. So its not "it" anymore, its a "she". And she is smart and kind and generous, you know, like your phone. Thus much more real than background story for DS character.
We are...close.
LMAO!
Slightly OT, you guys seen the new HBO series Westworld? Wonder how long before we have something like that avaliable?
Not in any of our lifetimes. Though we may get virtual reality (the way people mean when they use the term), or something passable way before then.
