Where's Vittorio for V4? I need to buy him again.

I bought Vittorio for V4 back when it first came out and was RTE-encoded to the original V4. Never thought much about it, just installed, made a backup disc and that was it. Never thought to buy him again when he moved here to Daz because hey, I already owned him. BUT ...

Now I discover the Vittorio in my runtime, having outlived 3 computers and at least 5 hard disc failures is broken. Sure, I can get some -- most -- of the morphs to inject into my V4.2 and that buffs up the standard Daz V4 male but it's not the same at all. So I go on a hunt thru my backup discs and after much frustration, because I have a lot of them, there it is! My 2006 Poser & Daz Purchases DVD. Eagerly I insert it and start to copy the Vittorio folder ... only to find it won't copy because the disc has somehow gone bad. File recovery software fails me, my only option is to buy him again. But when I go to his page at Daz it comes up 404. Sad, sad Byrdie. crying

Does anybody know where I can find Vittorio? He would have to be about the only thing in my PoserPros history that I don't have another backup of, or can even find the receipt for after all this time. I'm sure that's where I bought him, like I said he was RTE encoded. For awhile I hoped the old Vittorio4 RTE file I was able to dig up would restore the broken bits but when I decoded that it has the .CR2 but no object file. I salvaged the parts that still work out of my Poser 6 runtime, so that's how I still have the textures, morphs and a few free outfits. Just not Vittorio himself. How can I buy him again? Can I buy him again? I've also noticed Mina M4 by the same PA is 404 here too, but that is working fine, I have several fresh backups of it and it is in my order history here at Daz should any of those fail me. Did he get vaulted with the older stuff or is he gone for good?

He's no longer a vendor here, so none of his brokered products are available for sale.

Oh dear! Has he moved to another store or gotten out of 3d altogether?

  • Who made those products?  I forgot.  Is there anyway to convert Vittorio to Genesis 3?  I have genx2 and genesis 3 plugin.

They were by pdxjims. I hadn't gotten around to putting them into any of the Genesis figures yet but as he is the same PA who did Guy 4 for M4, and that one does work in Genesis & G2 when transferred over via genX2 it should work on Vittorio & Mina M4 Enhanced as well. If you have 'em you can always try.

I have them but neither are installed at the moment.  neither is Mina but the guy 4 is installed. I will try later.

Good luck! Hope they work for you. Google has failed me in trying to locate the creator. And two more data recovery programs have choked & died on that disc of mine. Only Recuva was able to copy the 2 main zips after an hour of trying, but what it got back was too corrupted & wouldn't open. Funny thing is, Windows can see the files and the disc does not appear scratched or discolored as I'm very careful about handling & storing them. I can look but not touch and it is frustrating as all hell! crying

  • Where did you originally purchase him?

Have you tried to read the DVD in another drive? Some drives reads certain discs better than others. Especially BluRay drives seem to be good at reading bad DVDs.

if it was PoserPro's, it might be worth contact Daz3d...

If you bought it at DAZ then you can perhaps try to go to your purchase history and type the name in the search field because some items that we purchased are only available in our purchase hstory (not via DIM) because they were deactivated. They meanwhile still have download links and it is thus always possible to download them.

Bought him at PoserPros but I don't have a receipt now, my old emails from back then are long gone -- I lost a lot of files when my first external drive died year before last. I did manage to find one folder of PoserPros purchases & a copy of my order history but it wasn't there for some odd reason. I think the store was in flux at the time, probably due to a change of site design, since none of the freebies I got from there that were in my account history are listed either. So there's no proof of purchase, which is why I wouldn't expect to have a download reset from Daz. I'm perfectly willing to buy him again but it seems that's not possible. At least the morphs are working with my V4 males -- well, most of them anyway, and that's better than nothing at all.

The drive I'm reading the disc from is the only one I have, just one computer in my house now. It's a BluRay read/DVD write type and the system is only around six or seven months old. Unfortunately the disc is 10 years old and it's not the only one apparently to have gone bad. In a few cases it's just one or two files that I have other copies of or can do without, in some cases it's everything on a disc that I have no copies of elsewhere and some things are personal documents like letters, stories, artwork & photos that just can't be replaced. Right now I'm trying to sort out the mess & salvage whatever I can of everything. Funny thing is, I have even older discs that are just fine. Guess chaos really does rule when it comes to these things, it's all a game of chance. cheeky

On Facebook but not as Byrdie. Don't even use my real name there although they insist on it, I'm using the name of a game character which must come across as real enough to pass muster. Especially since I have a gmail account under the same name -- yes, I'm dating myself here but I'm a relic of the days when the first thing we were taught about the Internet was "no real names there are too many wierdos & crooks out there". But I'll look him up anyway, is he still using the same handle?

  • I couldn't remember if I bought this or not.  I did.  However, I was surprised to see that it is connect only when I looked in my product library.  I'm not sure why as I bought and installed him with DIM.  Why would it be connect only?  I thought they didn't do that to older content.

  • ByrdieByrdie Posts: 1,783

Very strange indeed. Did somebody set it wrong I wonder? That has happened before, but not with older content. Especially Poser, which can't to my knowledge use Connect-installed files.

  • fixmypcmikefixmypcmike Posts: 19,686

Yes, that makes no sense, as if it's ExP like most V4 morphs then it can't be installed with Connect.

  • I don't know if it is.  It's been a long time since I installed with DIM.  But, it definitely only has Connect as the download option in my Product Library which is bad if I happen to lose him off my hard drive as I don't do Connect and there is NO DIM download option available.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Vittorio had an OBJ file as it was tied to V4.2, meaning it's tied to V4's OBJ file. It's just morphs and textures for Victoria 4.2. I think you had to use RTE to decode it. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/34349/how-do-i-decode-files-via-rtencoder

  • Yeah, I don't remember.  I think I used it one time right after I got it and then never again.  It's been too long.  It was also one of those things I picked up when dirt cheap during a sale so it isn't like I spent much on it.  I may have to dig it out, though, just to make sure it still works if I can figure it out again.

  • fixmypcmikefixmypcmike Posts: 19,686

If you right-click on the entry in DIM and choose "Show Installed Files", see if there are files in the path "Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/Victoria 4".  If there are, then it uses ExP.

In any event, please report the missing download options.

  • I checked and there are files shown as installed there. See screenshot.  I did open a ticket to report this.

Your screenshot of the Product Library page shows all 3 download methods.

Are you reading this right? Yes, in your second attachment it shows it as  Connect installable but below that it shows "Download and Install" under 'Install Manager Ready'

I don't know what happened.  When I first opened it, I didn't see DIM there, only the connect.  But, you are right, the it is there on my screenshot.  I must get senile after 1 am!  Sorry about that!  I'll close the ticket.

edit: figured out how to close the ticket.  Now, I'm embarrassed at my mistake!

    Sending you a PM....

Got your PM. Having computer issues, spent last night & all day cleaning out a bunch of malware that somehow got into the works. Something called win.yahoo -I can't remember the rest of it. I think I got it all but had to give Windows a kick in the keyboard afterwards to get that working & let me type. So if you don't hear from me too often that's why. sadangry

Try Rendo.  I saw a gallery there for pdxjims and a bio if not a store. He may still check it.

I dunno, looks like he hasn't posted anything there since 2009. Found his gallery on sharecg but it seems to be empty. Looks like he's retired.

  • RAMWolffRAMWolff Posts: 10,343

No, not retired but in a different area of the CG universe these days.
