Weird Rooms

3Diva3Diva Posts: 11,981

I'm looking for products kind of like the Lenore's Place product. Particularly rooms and buildings that are "off" - with weird and strange angles. Rooms, buildings, and environments a bit Tim Burton-esque or maybe a bit like "slightly darker Alice in Wonderland" type environments.

You guys know of any products like that? (Bonus if they are cheap or freebie. lol)

You could try the 'Curious' PC+ products and their variations. http://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Curious+

And Antfarm has some of that style, many of which are in the mega fast grab, like the 'never' series.

The Curious range of buildings in the PC club by jack Tomalin are wonky. Not perhaps quite what you want but close I think

    http://www.daz3d.com/a-curious-pub  - for example

they also have add on textures sets.

Have you checked out Poser Direct, he has a number of wierd and wonderful sets, some free and some paid for in particular you might be interested in his free Haunted House, on this page:- http://www.poserdirect.com/free_build.html

Awesome! Great suggestions guys, thank you! :)

The curious buildings look cool but not quite as "skewed" as I'm looking for. I'll keep digging through the Daz store though (and maybe I'll find something at that PoserDirect site). :) I wonder if there is perhaps a way to twist or warp furniture, windows/doorways, or buildings without it messing up the maps and textures. Probably not.

Feel free to keep making suggestions - I've found a few things thanks to you guys' suggestions that I've added to my wish list! :)

  • LukeA has a set called 'Silent Fright' at renderosity store that has uneven walls/angles

For those sets that have movable walls, I would think you could at least change the angle/tilt of various segments. That shouldn't impact textures. I would also think that a wall cutting through part of a window might not be so bad for this sort of theme.

  • When you say weird, do you mean like an Echer painting, or weird like German expressionism with things being a bit warped?

I suppose both? A variety of environments that are unsettling and strange. Not necessarily horror or anything, just weird. A variety from mildly weird to very weird.

Just checked out that store, although I have seen it before. However it was the first time I noticed you can buy most of the models there for just $10 total, which is a reasonable deal for the quantity of stuff they have there, even if it is mostly old stuff.

Why don't you just move the walls out of kilter?  Most sets have separate moveable parts and you just scale down one wall and change the rotation of another so it joins back up.

Oops.. didn't read all the answers.  Fastbike1 already suggested...

  • Just stopping by to echo the recommendations for LukeA's SIlent Fright and Jack Tomalin's Curious series, especially the Curious Hallway. The latter has especially obvious skewed angles, plus a miniature door behind one of the curtains. :D http://www.daz3d.com/a-curious-hallway

The cool thing [well, there are many cool things] about LukeA's Silent Fright is that it comes with a distorted hallway + doorways that's not just a picture on a plane, but actual geometry with an exaggerated vanish point. Plus almost all pieces of the room are separate props, making the set much more versatile than a just a cockeyed Xmas set! https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/silent-fright-set/82970/

You might try experimenting with unique camera angles and Fisheye lenses

The Sweeny Todd set is kind of Tim Burtonesque. (there's was also the Toonville Bundle but it was more cartoony). Actually exterior wise maybe Sandy Bay.

Oh nice! Thank you. I really like the looks of both your suggestions and will definitely be getting the Curious Hallway. I've added the Silent Fright Set to my wish list and will keep an eye on it - hopefully it will go on sale.

    Thanks, MW! :)

Quite possibly not 'off' enough for your needs, but whenever I think of slightly surreal in the Daz store I think of The Antfarm's 'Never...' series - particularly NeverHome, with it's winding streets and crooked chimneys. It's cheap, too.

    http://www.daz3d.com/neverhome

I've owned it for a while and have just thought of another render for it while I was looking at it again to see if it might do for you, so thanks for asking the question :)
