If you press render it will render the scene normally I think. It's just the way I see most scenes when there are other lights in that cancel the cameras headlamps. You can add a distant light to work with and close it before rendering.
Ctrl + L will switch on the light for the preview, but what you see is normal, when the headlamp of the camera was turned off.
Thanks guys. I'm still in a fog, but I'll be able to go to the next step by CTRL + L.
You can also select Window in the top left of your workspace and then scroll down to preview light. Click to turn on or off.
Have you seen the Daz video tutorials yet?

Daz now has a great new beginners series of instructional videos. I'd suggest working my way through those. It will give you a good solid foundation to get started. Then you'll pretty much be in the same boat as the rest of us, and just trying to figure stuff out however and where ever you can.
Greetings,
Just to note...I don't know if I13's Executive Office Environment is like others of theirs, but if you 'merge into scene', you don't get their environmental lighting and/or render settings, which sometimes makes a difference in how it comes out. So if you find yourself loading it, hitting 'render', and still having a problem, it's possible that 'merge' is partially to blame. (It took me filing a bug report on the Coffeeshop to learn that...)
Another hint is to pull up the Aux Viewport, and set it to an Iray preview. It'll take a bit, and suck a piece of your CPU, but it gives a really useful preview of how the scene will roughly look when actually rendered. (There's a few differences, like high definition models aren't sub-divided, and the like, but it gives a great overview.)
