20% off giftcards, but...

So, today the PA sale offers 20% off all DAZ Originals, including giftcards! Yay! But, to get that 20% we need to buy not one, not two, but THREE new "Debut" items! To make matters worse, unless you're a Poser user or a DS user willing (and able) to do some tweaking with the products, there's only THREE "Debut" items to choose from...

Sometimes I wonder what goes through the minds of the people making the decisions on these sales.

Agreed. Some days it makes a nice change to see Daz making it difficult for them to take my money though - it kind of makes up for all the other days when it seems to be attracted to them with the irresistible power of an industrial strength magnet!

  • yeah, seems pretty silly. I've got a few items that I'm on the fence from the last couple of days. If those applied, I'd probably get them, but without this incentive, I'm probably going to pass on them. I've spent too much as it is...

  • Ya I really wanted to pick up a gift card but there aren't three items I need out of what's offered.  I rarely do modern and don't need any cityscapes.  The clothing is not my usual style either.  Oh well, I REALLY don't need to spend any more money.

I think quite a lot of other people have passed on the Poser blocks too. They're nowhere near the top of the the 'What's Hot' lists on the storefront, although a bunch of them are lurking down on the end of the second row. I bet they'd have been right up there and flying out of the store if some time had been taken to make them Studio compatible.

  • I wouldn't even be adverse to buying them, I can see they would be very useful for backgrounds and such.  I just don't do cities. So its a pass for me today.  Which is fine I have plenty of other stuff to work on.

Remember that people are likely to be buying just 3 (to get the 20% off GC), so any sales will be spread amoungst 9 different products, which all have to fight there way to the top of What's Hot.

  • I don't really need lorez city blocks, although I might've a few years ago. I guess I'll pass on a gift card.

Assuming you have zero need for any of the Debut release items, you would still need to set aside $22.5 minimum to avail the GC offer. The GC are normally offered at around 12-14%  throughout the year.

So you would need to purchase atleast $300 GC to match the 12% discount. Here's the math:

    $300 GC @ $240 + $22.5 = $262.5 net purchase. Effective discount on GC = 12.5%.

Of course, the discount gets better only if you are willing to spend higher than $300 on GC.

Edit: This is just for posterity. The sale is over now.

It would have been nice if the GC sale had been held on a day that the new releases were actually *new*. I already had all but block #1.

At 20% off, that's $100 off a $500 gift card. Not hard to spend $18 (the low-rez city blocks were less thn $6 in my cart) for that kind of savings. You save a couple bucks off of future products even with a $100 gift card at those prices.

Yeah, I probably ought to have re-purchased one of them at the time, the discount would have been worth it. Too late now.

As I see it, if the discount had been 12%, with no conditions attached, I probably would have got a $300 card in this case, which would have cost me $264. Instead I got 3 lowres blocks + $300 gift card for a cost of $257, so a bit cheaper, plus I got the lowres blocks (although I doubt it will use them very often).
