(didn't know Universal Manipulator has a Tool Settings either - until recently too!)

    Wait, what?

The "Tool Settings" pane shows options (aka "settings") for the active view "tool"... like the label suggests.

Getting used to City Limits. Man, I can't believe how much better the pinning is in Active Pose. I wonder what other tools I missed out on all these years using Hollywood.

I just learned that City Limits Lite, contrary to City Limits, doesn't have keyboard shorcuts per default. You have to define them yourself, it seems. A bit odd, I think.

  • Now I just wish there was a way to pin things in keyframes so they'd stay put during the tweening.

That is not correct :- All of the layouts except Full Service [Beta] use the same exact action and menu file when applied. Where they differ is in activity/pane layout and toolbars. Every layout except Full Service [Beta] (and any custom layout saved from it) has access to all of the exact same UI elements, the only thing that changes is how they have been organized.

Well I wondered why ctrl+z (undo) and other shortcuts suddenly didn't work no more, then I finally realized that I'd accidentally shifted to City Limits Lite. I checked under Customize and could see that no shortcuts were assigned at all. I assigned ctrl+z to undo and then it worked. I then shifted back to City Limits and all shortcuts were working again, so I thought it was a limitation of the Lite version.

I've tried to shift back to Lite now however to see if I could reproduce it, but I can't. Not sure what happened the first time then, something must have glitched I guess.

  • What is... active pose control? :(

The doohicky on the right side of the screen.  Be aware that it will only show when you select body parts.  If you select the root or the main title of the figure in the scene tab it goes away so you have to select say an arm or leg or chest or.... to make it show.  It's a bit fidgety for me as some body rotations are switched so always grabbing the outer (red), center (green) or inner (blue) ring will not always do what you expect.  It's handy but yea, fidgety for me.  LOL

  • Thanks for that video! Knowing about the pose control and that it actually 'Locks' will make my life sooooo much easier.

active pose is a very old one and not well to use for animating

it uses translation for the joints only

and you cannot pin the feet well

    use mcasuals scripts for this

    very much better

Yeah, I use Hollywood Blvd and really wish it was an option to use it there. Pretty dumb that you can't, imo.

Window>Workspace>Customise, find the tool on the left (in Viewport Tools), find the toolbar you want it in under the Tool Bars tab on the right, and drag it across. You can also use the keybaord shortcut Alt-shift-P(Win)/Opt-Shift-P(Mac) to make it the active tool.

Thanks, Richard. I didn't even know what ActivePose was until I read this. I'm using Hollywood Blvd, and will be using it a lot from now on!

Which mCasual script is the one to use for pinning in keyframes? That's exactly the kind of thing I could use because that was the only problem I've found so far is that while things will stay pinned while posing the figure the don't remain pinned during the tweening.
