Does anyone know if the Easy Portrait Lights by DestinysGarden works with Iray or is it 3Delight only?

3Delight only. It is a product that predates Iray. If you need Iray, I recommend IDG Easy Iray Studio.
Edit: to Diva and anyone else, feel free to forum PM me directly at any time with questions. I'm usually about.
OH hey! The woman herself! Hey you! :D
Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. :) I added IDG Easy Iray Studio to my wish list - hopefully it will be on sale soon (I'd love to buy it at full price but I'm pretty financially challenged lol).
Could I ask about your shaders? I see you have some lovely looking shaders in the Mega Fast Grab -are those Iray compatible or are they 3Delight only?
I took a quick look through the Mega FG and the only shaders I saw of DG's were the 3Delight shaders. I didn't see any of her Iray shaders. It is possible that I missed them, though, but it looks like the ones in the sale are all 3Delight. Depending on which shader you are looking at, some of them might work just by hitting it with the Iray Uber Shader, but you will probably have to go in and redo some settings. I've notice that most of the fabrics look great in Iray, but the uber shader mess up the tiling and you have to manually change that. Some of the marbles and stuff look great as well, but again the tiling sometimes messes up with the conversion. I know at least one of her 3Delight shaders got an Iray version recently, those nice Brocades. I'm hoping that means that DG is going through her catalog and redoing some of her great shaders. I constantly use her Essential shaders sets and would love an Iray version of all of those. In those, I have found the ceramic shaders are the ones that don't like the iray uber shader the most! I haven't gotten any of those to work so love an Iray version of her Essential shaders.
So, while some will work in Iray, I would probably hold off buying if you are Iray only until DG possibly updates with Iray versions. If you do 3Delight at all, then ALL of DG's shaders are definitely worth gettiing. DG does great work and she pays great attention to detail. Her products that have Iray options all say Iray so they are easy to spot.
edit: added a forgotten word. Kind of changes the whole sentence.
There was a call out today for stuff to be added to Mega Fast Grab, and I requested my Vintage 3DL stuff to be added. The Shader Essentials 1-3 auto convert very well to Iray, so I have decided not to update them. I did thorough testing when Iray was released and figured the time involved to convert them would not be worth be the payback. The exception was my Toon Style Hair Shaders, which got a major update for 3DL and Iray last month. Quick tip: you will most likely want to turn the bump down to 1/2 of whatever it is set at, and Iray will render it just fine. The IG half of IDG Designs has another release planned for the second part of the PA sale, so I'd expect anything IDG to go on sale at that time too, and don't forget the catch up sales (if Daz plans them) when the whole store goes nuts.
cheers!
Awesome! Thank you! :D I think these might be worth a go then if they can be converted to Iray without much trouble. :) That's a really nice price for good shaders! I like to kit bash so having a nice variety of shaders is a must for me.
Bummer about not getting updates for those! I love your Shader Essentials, DG, what settings would work for the ceramics? (All those glazed color shaders in Essentials 2) Those are the main ones in the sets that I have trouble figuring out what to change after hitting them with the Iray Uber shader. They are reflect the light in strange ways and look nothing like the 3Delight version.. I would love to be able to use some of those in Iray. As, I said, the fabrics, the woods, and the marble all look great in Iray and the only thing I ever have to change is the tiling with those.
So, does that mean the only Brocades were going to get updated? I think that is the only shader for 3Delight that I never picked up in a 3Delight version, but I did get the Iray version that came out recently. I'm picking up the 3Delight version tonight.
Hey KM. Thanks so much for the kind words. *Hugs* my friend. I knew the glass did not translate well, but the ceramics are a mess, you are right. If you apply the Iray Uber base shader to the existing surface, the maps carry over, and then turn refraction weight from 1.00 ot 0.00. It is not an "ideal" result, but it is "a" result. I'll add Iray ceramics to my "to do" list. For the wood, fabric, stone, and the like, you don't need to bother with hitting the surfaces with the Iray Uber Base unless you want to for rendering speeds, but let the program do its job and auto convert them. Halving the bump setting should be all that is needed.
The funny story on the Brocades is that the 3DL version was actually completed and submitted before Iray hit. I had done an Iray conversion for it, and due to circumstances beyond my control, the Iray part made it to the store first, making the 3DL version mostly redundant.
I'm totally into exploring what Iray can do, and so many of my new items are not possible for other render engines. Plus, my texturing skills have increased so much over the past years that to convert older items seems like a step back to me. While I don't want to retire the items as they are still perfectly functional in the render engine they were made for, I prefer to start from scratch on the Iray items, with all new textures. Onward and upward.
hahah I love that - Onward and Upward! :D I look forward to all your work!
@DestinysGarden I'll give your suggestions a try for the glass. It's funny, I remember when Iray first came out and you had to convert everything during the beta stage. I keep hearing that you don't have to for a lot 3Delight shaders because DS now attempts to convert them for you now, but I always forget. I still have that beta mindset that the first thing you do is convert. I have come across a few shaders that I've forgotten to do and end up with black. Definitely none of yours! I will look forward to any future glass shaders from you. :)
I think it is only normal as skills grow to not want to go back to where you were when you started. I can't fault you for that! :)
While I have enjoyed the new products you've come out with lately, I do wish you weren't so busy. A new texturing lesson would be very welcome. I have been learning some things on my own, but it's always nice to have someone with your creativity sharing what you've learned.
*Hugs* back! Don't forget to take time to breathe and spend a little time with that fellow of yours while not working! He works too hard, too! :)
