Looking for a "soft" male character

Hi all,
So, I'm working on a graphic novel and its cover. The lady is the main character, so no problem there, but finding an appropriate male counterpart is proving ot be the problem. He's meant to be, for lack of a better word, soft. He's tall, lanky, not terribly muscular, but not bad looking, either. Think of him as that guy you see in the gym all of the time who just never seems to really add bulk or muscle. He could probably hike ten miles gasping and wheezing, but bench press? Not on your life. He's meant to be a nice guy character, if that helps in visualizing him, a bit awkward both physically and socially.
I normally only do renders of female characters, so the appropriate male character to use is admittedly eluding me. Any suggestions? Any purchase recommendations?
Thanks,
Bob

What generation you're working with? G1, G2, G3? What resources of male characters do you have available?
An easy way to get a "soft" looking character is micing a teen/kid into an adult male, like http://www.daz3d.com/tween-ryan-7
If you reduce the other male, for example, Michael 7, to 70%, and dial up Ryan to 30%, M7 will gain a much softer look. Also, if you use the teen skin on M7, he'll also look softer.
But the options are various. Like I said, it depends on what your base is, and what you have available.
If you have any of the Genesis 1-3 morph packs there are fitness and bodybuilder morphs that can be dialled backwards to create a somewhat weaker looking character.
Each of the base Genesis figures including Genesis2Male and Genesis3Male have a bit of soft everyday guy in them. If you add a bit of morphs from the various option available, you can get a fairly ordinary type of guy. Try youth, emaciated , Androgynous, potbelly, lithe, Emaciated, morphs added by small amounts at a time. Spin some dials and get exactly what you need.

Head morphs are available for the face as well.

Maybe Edgar: http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-edgar-hd-for-michael-7
If you need him "softer" that can be done pretty easily with body morphs. :)
Thanks, I shoudl have been more specific. I only have the base Genesis/Gen 2 characters that come with Daz as part of the starter set. I don't have any other characters, and not Gen 3.

Genesis 3 also comes free with DS-
But if you have nothing but the basics... The base morphs, as First Bastian suggested, are a "must".
Also, have a look here: http://www.daz3d.com/people-and-wearables-genesis-2-male
Amongst the people there, is there anything that comes close to what you have in mind?
For example, if you are looking for something closer to this guy (minus the ears): http://www.daz3d.com/fw-darc
Or him? http://www.daz3d.com/fw-ash-character-and-accessories
Finally... skin colour? You didn't specify, but shape is just half of the story.
Also, do you plan to render in Iray, or 3Delight?
If you have the base genesis morphs (which you would have needed for female characters) then you should have the morphs to soften the Genesis base male. If you do not have these, then the only real option (other than buying something), would be to dial a little Base Child into the base male figure.
Since you only have the base characters, the first thing I would do is decide which generation you want to use and get the morphs. Just start playing with them until you create what you are looking for. Of course, you can always look through the store and do a search for male characters and see if any strike you. You can always dial them down or mix with morphs so buy with the skin in mind. Also Handspan has good morphs that are sort of soft because they tend to focus on more fantasy/fairy/elf youngish characters... The most important thing to get is the full Daz morph set for your male generation of choice. You need that to do anything.
The Genesis, Genesis 2, & Genesis 3 characters are all 'soft', at least in comparison the the characters you have to buy. Actually, those base Genesis characters are very fit but seem soft compared to the exaggerated purchased characters so you probably will be satisfied with them. You can find plenty of face morphs on ShareCG
Bit ff by soft you mean a bit pudgy or fat you will need to supplement the base characters with free morphs on ShareCG or buy the base body and base face morphs for the character generation you want to make a soft.
A bit of a thin or skinny morph would probably do the trick. You can purchase the morphs here, or there might be something in this free Sharecg set:

Or for Genesis:

Don't forget you can alter shapes directly on the character with the tools for subtle adjustments.
Greetings,
I used to mix in some David 5 for that sort of thing; he's much more an everyman than Michael ever is. Nowadays I'd probably mix a (very) little bit of George plus a little (converted) David, and come out with a great character that fit your description. I also prefer rendering men (and women) who aren't perfectly muscled.
It's a bunch harder if you're looking to not purchase; in that case the free DieTrying 182 morphs is a really good choice, and just...tweak a bit, until you find something you like.

If you don't have any morphs, you might consider https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/john-q-genesis-family-daz-only-/65477 They are free and don't require any morph packs. I do suggest picking up the head and body morphs for whichever figure you plan to use.
buy the morphs (if you don't own them) and create your own; there is far more value in buying the morphs. You'll be able to get the look that 'feels right' if you start shifting dials.
Another recommendation, is SimTeneros Randomiser. You can try various random combinations of the options you select.
The body morphs and Head morph packs give you the options to add as little or as much variety as you need. You control the results. Here's Genesis 1 Male with heavy, pot bellied, pear shape, thin and emaciated added on the base texture. Same base character, different dial (percentage) spins.
