I  see this new product  called Perouge by Faveral

http://www.daz3d.com/perouges-medieval-village

I must say i am impressed by the levels of detail of this product

i have visited this village in 2014  and i can say that with the product  and more 3d plants we can reproduce almost a real medieval village

Chapeau Faveral!

Yes, I love medieval stuff so it went into the cart immediately. Haven't been able to try it yet though as I don't have DS installed right now.

FWIW, as a favorite PA, I was disappointed to find out that Perouge only supports the DAZ duf format, rather than the usual DUF/obj/pp2 set. I bought it, assuming the usual cross platform formatting, and will keep it because it's still a good set/value.

As Faveral's stuff is incredible, and I own a large percentage of the catalog, I probably won't be buying future products that don't offer the multiple formats unless a paying project requires it. The same goes for Stonemason.

My reasoning isn't 'religious', as I primarily use DS and Carrara, as well as Poser on occasion, but my toolchain is very poser-format specific and works across all of my tools, and many of the same functions/utilities for product tuning/tweaking don't exist in the DUF world (although D3D does a good job providing most of the key functions).

I may be a minority, but I figured the PA's might be interested. I have a similar bias toward 3DL materials/shaders (even if not Poser/Cararra compatible), as I do realistic PBR using reality/lux which works in one form or another on all of my platforms, so IRAY isn't a real draw, but not having 3DL materials/shaders makes a product 'not-turn-key' on my DS home-base, which is an added expense for me.

(intended as constructive/pragmatic, not as a complaint!)

Again, the Perouge set looks amazing, and is clearly up to the standards we've come to admire in all of Faverall's work, so bravo for that!

  • Mindsong,

I imported duf to Carrara 8.5 then saved the scene as .car and did the notebook find replace ABoo 23 with ABoo 3 hack to fix the uv wrapping then added creasing to the models in vertex room though that may not be needed I just thought it looked better.

Thank you for your comments Mindsong.

I understand your concerns. Unfortunately, as a PA, given the trend of huge discounts offered by daz, I can't justify spending the extra 3-4 days it would take to accomodate 3 software.

These days, sets sell on average between 55 and 60% off. Unfortunately, and this is not my choice, the trend in the store seems to be quantity over quality. I'm forced to go with the flow.

Thanks for the quick and candid response, @Faveral!

I appreciate that it's either my time or yours - heh... and obviously the economics have to drive our respective decisions/actions. Your response is practical and makes sense. I didn't know how long it would take for the designer him/herself to 'poser-ize' a project of this size, so that information is meaningful. I know it takes me at least that long, and I skip anything I'm not 'seeing' in my project render, so it's always a hack when I re-texturize/shade my models - which is why I love it when you guys do it right to start with...

That said, I've still got a more of your items in my wishlist, and I try never to say 'never' (re: your future products), although seeing duf/obj/pp2 makes it a no-brainer here!

I also appreciate the mentioned DAZ 'sale' issue, and am guilty of only buying stuff that's fairly deeply discounted these days, so I'm actually part of the problem... can't help myself.

Be well, keep up the great work, and perhaps with @ToeJam's technique (thanks for that), I can probably suffer a few more 'duf-only' packages in the future.

    cheers,

Surely the important thing is maximising revenue. If there is more revenue from more sales at cheaper prices than there is from fewer sales at higher prices, then this is the sensible strategy. Since DAZ gets half? the revenue, they are highly incentivised to adopt the best strategy. I suspect they have. You, of course, are not forced to go with the flow. You can choose a broker with a better strategy offering higher revenue; perhaps one offering smaller discounts...

  • Can we enjoy the magnificence of this model for 5 mintues before we descend in to a discussion of the capitalistic economy?

Sorry, I am just so grateful for all of Faveral's models. I will happily take any model he offers us.

Ooops - @granville, point well made, appropriate, and appreciated. I could have PM'd Faveral with that opinion/thought.

FWIW, I also celebrate his great work and recommend anyone looking for his sort of worlds go and pick them up without hesitation.

My "wishing for the world" was not meant to diminish the perception, value or quality of his products, nor sour the tone/intent of this thread. Apologies to all.

Faveral's work is consistent and exceptional.

    my bad,

looking at the OP's images, it looks like the model handily captures an amazing place. Get some flora and fauna from here (traveler's stuff) or maybe lisa's stuff at HiveWire, and you could have a Perouge of your very own...
