You guys might recall my creepy skulls of chaos.... well, they just got a massive upgrade!

Phantoms II combines a scary skull with its own posable flame conformer, to give you an even freakier minion. Ive also included not one but three different flame effects, all of which have emission. New morphs, tons of poses and even a natural skull texture are also included, making this the best iteration of Phantoms yet. Iray and 3Delight included.

Got questions? Feel free to ask, Ill be around all day. Got renders? Feel free to post... I love looking at what people make.

Wanted to put this up earlier but i got busy lol. I loved every version of the skulls so far but this one is my favorite, with the skulls and flames being all separate and stuff.

Question: Can the skull be made invisible and/or replaced by another object? I'm thinking of a star, heart or other object with the cool effects trailing behind.

  • The skull is its own figure - the flames, a conformer that loads onto the skull. It can be loaded by itself, and can be used in the way you are wanting to use it. The only thing, is that the front part is deformed to fit the skull. If you have another object there, tho, that shouldnt be an issue.

I absolutely love the look of them.

I've got a question, but I'm not sure if it's going to make sense.

Do they have emissive light? Can they be used as a light source or would the user have to add an emissive shader to them?

I really hope that makes sense :p

They are emissive, and do cast some light. You can turn it up higher if you want them to cast more light. The bloom settings also make them render in an outward manifestation (like in these promos) The only caveat, is that it needs a background to work.

The 3delight ones dont cast light per se. The will bleed the glow onto the skull, however, but not glow in an outward manifestation (that has to be done in postwork)

Since I posted the iray renders, this is how the 3Delight renders glow. Kind of different than iray... as the glow bleeds onto the skull. While its not required, they glow even more prominently when using lights with occlusion on them

  • LOL cute! Like a Disney evil duo. The skull is her little animal pal that makes sarcastic jokes and is in general, trouble.

I dont typically go for cute, but evil cute is okay.

Actually, it made me think of Lady D while I was doing them. They go really well with her too.

My first Phantoms II render, I'm sure not my last. 3DL render then in the second pic ran it through filter forge, added a title as a possible cover for an upcoming comic. A work in progress.

  • Huh... for some reason, I cant see your images

  • Oh I see it now... very cool!

  • I got it but need to sit down at my computer and start DS to play with it.

Why will it not work with Poser?

  • Its a DAZ natiive figure.... so its Triax. I didn't include files to bridge it to Poser (at this point in the game, Im not supporting Poser)

In my first use of this, I mixed it up with the new Iray version of Orestes Electromancy. The result can be found in Llola Lane's Story Telling Thread where I wrote a little story to go with the render.

  • LOL Very cool and creepy render.... she is utterly terrifying. Love the story too.

Thanks! Glad you liked it!. I haven't written anything in a while so it was nice getting an inspirational kick from the render.

  • Hi, does anyone have any tips for animating the phantoms? Basically I want to have it fly around and the flames trail behind it in a somewhat "realistic" manner. Has anyone found some tricks with animate2, etc. ?

@Deadly_Buda -- didnt want to leave you hanging, but sadly, Im not really good with animating (until very very recently, Ive never even used the timeline, and I only have with dforce a bit) So I will leave it up to hopefully someone more expert with it helping you out there.

That said, the best way to make the chain rig in the flames pose in one fell swoop, would be to select all those joints in your scene tab, and then also on the param tab, and then bend/twist/side-side them all at once. But this would effectively make it curl in one congruent fashion (rather than slither such as a snake would) Beyond that tho, its more or less just careful posing each segment at a time at equal intervals in the timeline (as well as moving the skull forward as you do so)

  • Hi Ignis! Great prop, btw!

Ok I'll try that. I got an interesting flicker effect by literlly dragging the twist sliders while the timeline was running. It sort of created some realistic randomness. I'm going to keep playing with it and post some results when I get something good.
