What art softwares do you use?

Not to start a software war but I was wondering what art softwares do you use?

I use DAZ Studio for posing and rendering, ZBrush for sculpting and modelling, Photoshop CC for 2D texture and post work, occasionally 3Dmax modelling and rendering, VUE 2015 Infinite for large scale landscape work, VWD for dynamic clothes, and substance painter for preparing textures. I think those are my main go to apps. In addition there are a bunch of smaller utilities like for example Filterforge.

Just Daz Studio and Photoshop CS6 (I refuse to pay for the cloud thing). I've tried Blender as I want to learn to do 3D modeling and texturing, but I couldn't get into it - the UI just seams to be a big ol mess and it's not very intuitive or newbie friendly. I'm on the look out for a modeling and texturing program that isn't very hard to learn.

I am on the outlook also for art software other than what I use to do 3d modeling and texturing.   I do have Photoshop CS6 and I have not gotten my head wrapped around the Cloud thing either.

  • I have an ancient version of photoshop that I got from studio I used to work for, an even more ancient version of Paint Shop Pro that I bought back in the 90s I think but for actual illustrating I use Sketchbook on my Galaxy Note Pro with a Wacom pen.

For 3D stuff I use 3D Coat for texturing my models with extra detail work done in Sketchbook. For modelling I use a combination of 3D Coat and Hexagon.

I run alot of "old" Software  on my Old mac computer but it still gets the job done

But ALL of my Character animation is done on my newer windows PC

Maxon Cinema4D R11.5 for modeling & general 3D CG and all final renders including NPR/toon renders-(Mac OSX)

Next limit Real flow4 for Fluid Dynamics-(Mac OSX)

Blender 2.7 for  occasional but rare High quality PBR still images( PC win 7)

Reallusion Iclone Pro For Character animation creation assisted by Daz studio 4.8 with Animate2,GraphMate& KeyMate plugins.also mimic live for lipsinc-( PC win 7).
Natural Motion Endorphin for Ragdoll physics-( PC win 7)
MorphVox pro for differentiated  Character voice creation-( PC win 7)
Sound studio pro for general Audio editing--(Mac OSX)

Adobe After effects CS3 for compositing and Visual effects -(Mac OSX)
and post color grading of animated footage.
Adobe Photoshop CS3 for 2D image editing--(Mac OSX)

    I own poser Pro 2014 -( PC win 7)
but only use it for my motion product testing
because I prefer genesis Figures used natively in DS only.
Also Iclone pro along with DS keyMate& GraphMate
Makes posers 1990's era ,figure animation tools outdated and useless to me at least.

    What is MD?

  • In this case MD = Marvellous Designer, I think.

You will be unlikely to find something more capable for 2D art than http://www.painterartist.com/en/product/painter/ . You also want a graphics tablet.

  • I use Studio and Poser for rendering/posing/etc. CS5 for texture work, Blacksmith 3D for texture tweaking.  Silo, Sculptris and Carrara for modeling, Hexagon for morph making and tweaking models if need be.  Adding Substance Painter for texture work now, as well.

Blender, Mudbox, Photoshop, and Quixel atm. Eventually a baking tool like xNormal will get thrown into the mix as well.

  • DAZ Studio, Photoshop TOPAZ labs, Various filters, brushes, NIK Collection.

Poser, Daz Studio on occasion, mostly for things I need converted or that won't work right in Poser. Photoshop CS2 with a whole bunch of mostly free filters and actions and sometimes Paintshop Pro X4. Corel Photopaint used to be my go-to software for postworking but I can't get my old version to run in Windows 7 and I'm not too thrilled with the latest version that I've been trying out.

  • Daz Studio, Modo, Twisted Brush, PS (Cloud), Perfect Effects 9. ShaderMap3, Corel Suite, Vue, Substance Designer/Painter - Learning ZBrush and will probably pick up MD in the near future.

I use each for specific things, but switch between them often.

Daz Studio, Paint.net, Carrara, and Hexagon. I plan to get VWD for dynamics, but I am on a tight budget so it will be a couple of months before I can get it.

  • Lightwave, Paint Tool Sai, and well as  Clip Studio Paint; Open Toonz (just getting my feet wet),   Blender, Photoshop Cs5  (I too at this stage refuse to have a monthly bill considering this is all still in the hobby stage and doesn't pay for itself); and last but not least Daz Studio.  Getting into animation is looking like it's going to be in my future.

Daz3D, Paint .net, Gimp, Xnalara, Hexagon, Bryce.

I'm also learning to use Blender... It's not going well. I've spent days in the program trying to add clothes to a model, but I'm not getting anywhere. Which means I'm getting very frustrated with myself, because I know that what I'm trying to do can be done.

Edit: Yup, I'm done with Blender

The thing with  CGI software  (and in this regard Blender is no different than Maya, or anything else), is that you have to have a fundamental understanding of the programs before you can do specific tasks, unlike a prog like Photoshop, or After Effects where you can simply learn to do a specific task without getting all that deep into the software.   Unfortunately this means that with progs like Blender, there is usually going to be a period of simply learning the program itself and not necessarily doing the stuff you really would like to be doing with it.  Rather like playing scales and chords forever on a musical instrument when you're first learning to play.

Just stick with it,  I guarantee it'll pay huge dividends in the long run, and you won't have to continually struggle each time you're wanting to do a task, because you'll know what is required to get that task done, or you'll have a good idea.

Hi I use Daz ,Photoshop cc ( I really like the subscription otherwise I could never have afforded it) Corel painter 2016,manga studio 5 ,Mudbox (I am just learning this). And of course lots of software I never get round to learning Carrera, hexagon, bryce, blender. For 2d digital art you could not beat Clip paint studio (manga studio 5 ) for price and functionality, and ease of use!

    Greetings,

I used DAZ Studio, of course, on my Mac (I have a render slave Windows box with a nVidia graphics card) with postwork in Pixelmator (an incredibly good tool for ~$30, and sometimes even discounted).  I do touch-up morphs in Hexagon, but that's about all I use it for.  I'm learning Silo when I can, since I have it for all my systems, and it's incredibly fast.  I wish, wish, wish there were a bridge between DAZ and Silo; I'd use the HECK out of that...

I occasionally dabble with using Intensify Pro (I got it as part of a bundle) to retouch images, especially if I feel like I've screwed up the lighting slightly.  If I've messed up lighting, it sometimes feels like there's a grey film over the image.  I can usually fix it in Pixelmator by adjusting the color curves, but sometimes Intensify Pro is just a little better a tool for that.

I've also experimented with building houses using Live Interior 3D, and its Collada export.  It's not perfect, but it does some nice work.  I generally have to completely retexture it afterwards, once I bring it into DAZ Studio, though.

I'm glad someone mentioned Pixelmator; for Mac people, it is quite a miracle.  May I mention MacPhun's Aurora?  They make a lot of wonderful toys to brighten up images.

Primarily DAZ Studio, Bryce, and Gimp.

I also have a variety of other software that I either use when needed, haven't tried yet, used in the past but no longer do, or just don't use very much.

  • Poser 10, Daz Studio, depending on my figure and rendering preferences and Photoshop cs2.

    For free software there is:

    Blender

    Gimp

    Krita

    Inkscape

I'd not heard of Krita or Inkscape. I've downloaded them and can see how both will be useful to me, particularly Krita. Thanks for that :)

I'm much the same as everyone else and use Daz Studio, Bryce, and have just started using Carrara. I also use Photoshop CS5 every day. For modeling, I've been using Metasequoia 3D for a couple of years but have fallen in love with Carrara's modeling capabilities and will probably be using that in future. Less often, I use Art Rage, Project Dogwaffle Howler and Filter Forge. I find reason to open Color Cop (a free standalone colour picker) quite often too.

  • DAZ Studio for the artistic stuff and I'm currently learning Blender for modelling.  As for postwork, I appear to be something of a heretic, I use Corell Photopaint X3 if I need to do any nip and tucks and that's it.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

It may sound a little weird, but I find UV Mapper and Instant Meshes extremely handy (and free!)

UV Mapper changes the UV map of objects... nice and easy! So if you want a sphere where the UV map is rotated 90 degrees, or has cubic mapping, or a flat mapping from above, the side, an angle... whatever, there you go. Yes, there are a number of programs that can do this, I think, but in most cases it's a lot harder to use. And, again, hey, free program.

Instant Meshes actually changes the object's mesh. You can convert triangle to quad or back, you can change the mesh to be more even, or higher number of polygons, or lower number of polygons. For example, you could turn a sphere into an evenly subdivided mesh. Of course, then you need to UV map it... which is where the previous app comes in.

hmm,  lots of 3D apps installed. I have both DS 4.8 and poser 11 installed, Carrara 8.5, Bryce, Blender, 3DSMax, Rhino, Gmax, Milkshape, Hexagon, Ultimate Unwrap 3D Pro, UVmapper, Noesis,  Gimp, paintshop Pro, Photoshop and a few smaller 3D modding apps I use for specific games like the SIMS and Flightsim

  • The ones I use the most are DAZ Studio 4.9, Photoshop CC, and Painter 2017.  Less used are Vue Infinite, Clip Studio Paint Ex, and Poser Gamedev.  Krita seems like a pretty good alternative to Painter if you are on a budget. I have a ton of Ron's stuff for Photoshop and highly recomend them. Also worth noting that Painter has a Phtoshop brush import option. Also, the Nik Collection Photoshop plugins are free now so get those if you have Phtoshop or an app that can use PS plugins: https://www.google.com/nikcollection/
