Question for PAs - How soon is too soon to revisit ideas?

This is really more of a curiosity question for the PA's, specifically the PA's who make clothes.  And it's not as directly relevant to my future purchasing as it could be, since I'm not planning a significant expansion of my G3 collection any time soon.  And I'm not asking for anything to be made, though if it prompts some PA to think about it, that's cool too. :)  I'm honestly just curious about the proccess.

Hypothetically, let's say you get an idea for an outfit, but something similar (not exactly the same, but similar) already exists, though for an older generation figure by a different artist.  How old does that previous item need to be before you'll go ahead and make it?  Old enough that Autofit isn't an option?  Or is the new generation enough "difference", especially for something that's somewhat codified (say, a Pirate outfit, or police uniform, or even a basic bikini)?

Well, I'm not a PA but when I see clothing in Genesis or Genesis 2 I don't expect to see that clothing in Genesis 3. By clothing, I mean regular and functional clothing, not all this fantasy clothing.

I did notice that there are overalls in Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 3 Female which is a bit of a surprise as they aren't that popular fashionwise.

It's not unheard of for basically the same thing to be made more than once for the same figure even, though by two different PAs usually in that case.  Sometimes even very closely released time wise, almost always by accident.  I don't really see it as an issue, especially if they're released at two different stores, and different people will approch the same thing differently enough that if someone wants "that thing" chances are they'll get both.  Two fantasy construction worker outfits?  Not a problem in my eyes, use them both for co-workers so they don't look like identical twins.  16 sleeveless mini dresses for G3 released in a week?  Not really a problem, you'll be set for those night club renders.  As for revistiting something I've already made... depends.  G2 to G3 would be reason enough for me if I really liked it, auto conversion really isn't that great.  If someone else made a Barney costume for G2 and I wanted to make a Barney costume for G3 it wouldn't stop me in the least.  If someone had already made one for G3 I probably wouldn't just because it's a niche item.

    Thanks, Fisty. :)

I'll admit what actually prompted the thought was the realization a couple weeks ago that I didn't have a basic, simple tunic set for G2F (like the one you did for Alfred), and I didn't remember seeing one (or one for G3F yet either), unless you count the Christmas Elf set you did for the Gen 2 figures.  Fortunately, most of the G2M ones autofit pretty well.  I realize there could be lots of reasons why one hasn't been made (such as not enough market) but it got me thinking about some really neat outfits for V3/A3/M3/D3/H3 that I've seen in the past (that now, of course, I can't remember at all to point them out) that I seemed to remember were pretty popular, but I haven't seen anything like them in a while, and the original artists aren't in business any more (as far as I can tell).

Of course, I could be completely wrong on the given outfits popularity too, and no one's made something like that because they were too niche at the time, or otherwise didn't market that well.

Yeah I probably wouldn't bother making another basic tunic set for G3M because it auto converts pretty well (that whole flat chest and flat heels thing.)

...well there was a redo of the V4 Aniibelle outfit for G2F.  When I tried autofitting the V4 version to Genesis/G2F, there was noticable distortion of the middle area of the skirt that stretched the texture badly.

JeanzZ for V4 was also updated for G2F as was the old Victorian Era ensemble.

I'd like to see a redeux of the Domino outfit for G2F as any long flowing clothing or coats tend to get messed up by autofit.
