Is there a easy way to make a scene almost dark? I have been using all different lights but when I go render the scene the light shines the whole area up. I am just wanting around the firgure to be shown.

If you are using Iray (the default) in Daz studio check the render Settings pane, Editor tab, Environment group - unless you have turned it off it will be using the default HDRI to light the scene. Set the Environment Mode to Scene Only and only the lights you added will be used (and you will probably need to adjust the settings uinder Tone Mapping then).
