Please explain Terradome: aren't domes + iray = bad?

I thought iRay didn't like domes.. you need to use the built in enviroment settings because domes block light..can someone explain terradome's use to me then?

Go to the product page and play the video. It explains everything. :)

  • Terradome is the name of the product.  It doesn't use domes.  As Xenomorphine suggested, watch the video.  It's really quite impressive.

Plus, you can totally do skydomes in iray, though it takes a little finesse (mainly, make it transparent and glowing and/or refraction color so it's basically a giant gel)

  • We decided to keep the name "TerraDome" even though, like everyone has said..... it no longer uses a "Dome"
Not sure what percentage that was "Branding" and what percentage "Couldn't come up with a better name" :P

"TerrorDome" wouldve been nice as well. Idea for an add-on perhaps, hmmm...

Im gonna buy it. Ive wanted it ever since I saw the original for poser but being a daz user I had to wait. Im certain itll be worth the wait!

  • LOL I have always wanted to do am animation with Public Enemy's TerrorDome as the bg music!
I was listening to it in the car the other day and I was picturing the scenes.

  • Lol, Welcome to the TerraDome indeed!

Well it still is a dome, just the iray dome that takes the 360 images rather than a physical mesh one.

Could be the cube style HDR, but Terracube doesn't sound as impressive. :D

  • There is no dome it uses a HDR sky image to both create the sky and illuminate the land prop. Consequently, you can use a HDR skydome from other products as the sky for Terradome 3. I have some great HDR that work great but with the sale I went ahead and bought their extra sky pack. If you want to save money you can either use your own HDR sky files or download the free ones on the web.

Well I'm glad you kept the name, otherwise I probably would have missed it in the store.

I was familiar with version 2 as I seen it over at RDNA's store and wanted to get it (But I don't have or use poser)

As soon as I saw version 3 for Iray here in the store, it and every expansion for it went straight to my wishlist for when I have the funds :)

I don't know if I ever saw the third... I was sort of meh about the second. heh.

  • I really liked the third (Cube:Zero) It had more of a story behind the "why" of it all. Yeah the second one was a little campy and cliche but still enjoyable.
Give Cube Zero a try if you get the chance! (Sounds like a coke commercial, LOL)
