Why do you desire a plug-in? Iray is already integrated into Daz Studio and it is free of charge and is perfectly capable. Best of luck.

"Best" can be subjective...  While I believe PBRs are better for realism, keep in mind it's like many other things - buying a set of $10,000 golf clubs won't make you Tiger Woods.

Export to a proper 3d program and use V-ray or Redshift.

...I liked R2.5/Lux even though it seemed to render in geologic time. I really liked the fact I could shut town the scene and Daz programme after sending the scene to Lux which freed up more memory for rendering. I also liked the fact I could pause the render shut down the system, come back later and resume the process without losing anything.

With Iray I have to keep everything open (just like with 3DL) until the job is finished which reduces available memory for rendering and often times sends the process into swap mode on large scenes.  I have an old system with an old 1 GB  Nvidia GPU and only 12 GB of memory, so I am pretty much stuck rendering in CPU mode.

Has Reality4 become more stable yet?  The last time I worked with it, I found it was buggy as all get out.

...recognise a number of the names (besides those discussed here on the forums).

Unfortunately several of them are expensive in their own right or require access to expensive pro grade software. For my purposes, GPU based engines are out as I have only an old GTX 460 and an MB that only supports PCI 2.0. Running dual diplays with Daz open taxes the GPU to the point i frequntly get "white outs" (where the entire application window goes white for several moments and the programme goes into "not responding" mode).

This pretty much limits me to 3DL and Reality/Lux.
