  3Delight or Iray?

  What you are looking for are Godrays, and in Iray, they only work in a foggy surrounding, or by using tricks.

  The first one uses atmosphere settings like the turorial. Just insert a strong spotlight. The other two uses planes with images on it. That renders much faster, but the effect is a little bit different from the scatter in the dusty atmosphere one.

  A note on the do it yourself:

  I highly recommend doing two renders, one with fog and only the bright exterior light, one with everything but the exterior light and no fog, then compositing.

  The way fog works in Iray, all light sources tend to turn haze into a cloudy mess, because the range of light strength is often artificially narrow to look good.
