Muscle map for genesis models

Hello all

I see Daz has come a long way since I first used it for drawing reference -10 years ago ?, now I am quite confused on what I need to purchase. I like the Genesis models but all I need is the muscle maps. Is this straight forward. Reading around a tutorial suggests it has to be bought for Michael 4 then finagled to fit genisis2. Is this correct

Is there any particular reason you must use Genesis2? The Muscle Maps will load properly on the original Genesis right out of the box, to use them with Genesis2 you need to buy another addon that gives Genesis2 the same capability to take M4 textures.

  • Thanks for reply - sorry I missed it until now

What is the original genesis model ? - the naming system is confusing. I find I have Michael 3 and Victoria 3.

Also I cant find a coherent explanation on what the difference is between the model versions

The original Genesis (Michael 5 and Victoria 5 are characters you can purchase separately for it) comes free with DAZ Studio, as do the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 male and female figures. You'll find them on the same page as DAZ Studio in your product library.

Genesis (the original, without a number after its name)  can use texture from Michael 4 and Victoria 4 directly; the Genesis 2 & 3 figures need add-ons to do this. Yiu should be able to purchase the M4/V4 muscle maps and use them with no problems on Genesis.

Each generation adds some improvements over previous generations. Realism and bending are two things that come to mind. You should experiment with the Genesis base figures, since they're free, and see if they meet your needs.

What riftwitch said plus this thread may help: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/64403/converting-to-g1-g2-g3/p1

Edit: with understanding different generations, not with muscle maps.

Did you install the (free) Starter Essentials content? There's one each for Genesis, Genesis2 (includes Male and Female), and Genesis3 (includes Male and Female). Each of these will install the figures plus some extra goodies into the People folder in the Content Library tab.

Some years ago, Scott Livingston wrote up a history of the evolving generations of Daz figures that might shed some light http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24257/
