How do I transfer my DAZ library?

I am in need to move my entire library off my hard drive onto an external....and then instruct Studio to go to that drive for content. And then I need to figure out how to instruct DIM to go to that external and download new stuff to it and do updates. I'm not exactly computer savvy, so any help on this is greatly appreciated :)

    1. Do the steps on this link:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/105191/i-need-some-ssd-hdd-setup-help

and then once you edit and save those locations and copy your files to the new location(s) you will need to go to this directory:

    2. Do this

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFiles

and for each file in that direcory edit it with Wordpad or sme sort of UNIX like sed editor and can the installation path of the installed DAZ 3D products to the new location where you moved them to.

Note, I haven't yet tried to do step 2 myself so I don't know if in the Windows Registry or some for of DAZ CMS database(s) the original install locations of that content is still used.

Also note that if you have used the DAZ Content Manager you need to configure that location as well seperately in the DAZ Preferences (that's part of Step 1 above but I didn't expand that part of the dialogue).

I just looked at that drive...and I think I'm just going to go get a bigger hard drive...looking at all those files in that folder and opening one in Wordpad....and the possiblity of not getting it done right will send me to the mental ward at the local hosp. Good grief.

I maintain a copy of my content libraries on an external USB disk, for use on different machines.  I periodically sync it to my primary libraries, to keep everything up-to-date.

Whenever I do that, I find that, when I try to use that copy on another system, I have to re-import the metadata for the machine I have the device attached to.  (The DAZ Studio CMS is specific to the instance of Studio, and resides on the same hard disk.)

The first thing to do is to verify that DAZ Studio is looking for content in those libraries, using the 'Content Directory Manager' option on the 'Content Library' tab's context menu.  Once you've told Studio where its content is, you need to update the database.

You'll find the 'Re-Import Metadata' option on the 'Content Database Maintenance' dialog; that dialog can be accessed from either the 'Smart Content' or 'Content Library' tabs, using the context menu in the upper-right corner of the tab.  Selecting the 'Re-Import Metadata...' option and clicking 'Accept' will bring up a dialog listing everything the CMS 'thinks' is in your library.  Make sure everything is selected, click 'Accept' again, and let it run.

That is why I recommend a sed style utility so you can edit the string one time & then sed would find and replace all those same occurrances in the other files. Doesn't Windows have something similar? I know you can do that in Visual Studio with project source code files...but I don't know how to in a case like you need. sad

    Sounds much easier. Thanks.
