Posing Clothes Sans Figures

Does anyone know of a way to pose non-dynamic clothes without a figure? Or how to have clothes retain a pose after the figure they clothed is deleted? Conversely, is there a minimal polygon Genesis 3 figure (Genesis 3 in order to achieve maximum compatibility) available, a minimally-boned, untextured G3 stickman? I have Decimator, but have not found it to be as flexible as hoped.
FYI, I'm using Major Cache for M4 on unsubdivided G3M (less polygons than the previous generations), and I thought that if I could freeze the pose on the suit and delete the base figure, I might be able to add a few more virtual stormtroopers. Additionally, where can I find the G3M base texture in RAM so I can delete it? (Since I don't need it because the figure is completely covered by the suit; mind you, this is only if there is no way to have the suit retain its pose after deleting the human figure). Thanks

My guess would once this VWD dynamic clothing plugin for DAZ Studio becomes availble it could to that.
I had not heard of that, nonesuch00, thanks for mentioning it. Looks promising.
I guess you could hide the figure and export the posed clothes as an obj. Then reimport your obj and paste the materials settings from the clothes before deleting them and the original figure. I don't know much about instances, but that might also be something to look at for multiple of the same obj.
Hey, Redz! I don't think I understand. Bear in my mind that I'm a virtual (though not actual) noob. If I paste the materials settings and then delete the clothes, what will be left. And I'm using Iray if that matters.
Instances would work if this weren't an action scene, but instances require that the poses be identical for each instance, and I haven't discovered how to instance the entire hierarchy (figure with clothes). I was also trying to save the entire hierarchy as a prop, but I haven't been able to suss that either.
If you load just your clothed and posed figure in DAZ Studio. (No cameras lights etc) then in the scene tab make the figure invisible by clicking on the eye icon. You should just see the clothing. Make sure the clothing is at the resolution you want to render with. Export this as obj, making sure ignore invisible nodes is checked. ( I think that's the default.) Now if you reimport your obj file, you should have a prop version of the posed clothing. It will probably load in untexturedand with the Daz default shader. Apply the iray uber base to your new obj, and copy the textures from your original conformed clothing to the obj, so that it is correctly textured. You should now be able to delete the original clothes and figure and be left with a posed dummy obj. I hope this makes sense.
Another thing you could do if 'invisible figure' isn't enough is simply copy the figure, and then paste the pose to the clothes; rigged clothing can take regular poses like anything.
LMAO, you can see if the clothing will conforming fit to the octopus in the DAZ Store and make the octopus invisible.
Aha! Ignore Invisible Nodes! Yes, that's it. Beauty, mate! Thank you, my dear, for an elegant solution. Now, the process for copying the textures is what?
Hi, Will! Would you explain how I paste a pose to clothes? Please consider that I can only count to F.
Actually Will's solution is simpler. Simply load the clothing without the figure and then apply the pose to each piece of clothing in the same way you would have applied it to the figure.
I recall trying to do that and failing. I will have to get to work on that. Thanks again, Paula.
You can convert the clothing figures to props and then delete the base character. It's a lot easier than exporting/reimporting as obj in my opinion. Also since the bones are removed it uses less memory than a rigged figure.

Xyero: Make a figure. Pose it. Edit > Copy.
Then select clothing. Edit > Paste (you have three options, select Figure Pose. Unless you also want the shape, not sure how that works with clothes, might work)
Is this a case which instancing is made for?
Thank you, timmins.william, for the details. Now, to wait for this render to finish so I can learn how to do something new.
I can instance a few troops, but they are in attack mode; so, most of them need to be in their own, unique pose. Thanks for the input.
I have tried and failed to convert the clothing hierarchy to a prop (it's made up of seven separate elements). Thanks for the link, and I will see if it has the solution as soon as my machine is no longer engaged.
Thank you all for putting your minds to this. I will post back tomorrow when I know which path allowed me to succeed.
