Zero my Hero question.

Can anyone tell me how the Zero My Hero outfit conforms to G2f? Not using G3f I am hesitant to pick it up unless the suit fits to G2f.

The suit fits to G2F just fine. I just tested it. The only problems I'm having are with fitting the "Belt and Scabbards" and the scarf to G2F. Still playing with settings. Otherwise it works great!

Thanks! I am not super worried about the scarf, I was worried more about the gloves and boots TBH. I really want to grab this set, but since I don't use G3 I would really like to know if it works before I grab it and then find out it doesn't work well and have to return it.

I think the scarf can be parented like a prop to G2F's neck. That way you don't lose the ability to use the scarf morphs.

Ditto with the scabbards. The belt can be parented to the body but the scabbards start deforming when you pose G2F. I think a combination of conforming the belt (and hiding the conformed scabbards) and parenting the scabbards like a prop (while hiding the belt) should fix you up ok.

I will have to give that a try and see if it works. Thanks for checking this for me, I really appreciate it.

Hey, shadowhawk1, one thing I've found is that Zero seems to work well with G2M too! I've been playing a bit with it (on G2F) and found that JoeQuick's done a great job with the material zones so that it can work with multiple designs, not just the Pink Ranger look that it automatically loads up as.

G3F clothes don't transfer to G2M (that I've found; if anyone has a more direct link, please feel free to share), but if you save the G2F file, you can use G2F files to transfer to G2M. Re-conform the suit, gloves, boots, and belt (it took me a few tries because I left DS really confused), then bring over the helmet and scarf separately as props.

The belt looks a bit like a crazy codpiece on G2M, but it could probably be swapped out for a different belt.

Any chance you could check to see if G3M transfers about as well as G2M?

And I did a quick render in what might be more masculine colors.  This is on the Kenji shape.

OK not sure how to save the files like that, moving over from Poser so there is still a lot I am learning about Studio. Can you direct me to a link? I also want to thank you, your taking the time to answer my questions has sold me on this set.

Thanks for popping in to show that image Joe! I am picking up the set now.

The easiest way to explain it might be like this:

    1) Load up G2F, then conform each of the Zero clothing pieces to the figure. Start with the suit; when DS asks what the original body was, choose G3F and the full body clothing. Then the gloves and the boots. Try the belt if you'd like. The scabbards can be hidden if they start deforming but the belt is pretty nice. The helmet is a prop, so it should parent to whatever figure you want.

    2) Save your file. This can be handy later because now you have a G2F base file you can use later. You can also save out the clothing to your Runtime library because now they're ready for any G2F figure. I won't go into that for now.

    3) Load up G2M into your file. You should now have a nude G2M and a clothed G2F.

    4) Save this file. Maybe as a separate file than your G2F file. (Maybe as your G2M base file?) I recommend this because DS might crash. It happened once or twice when I was doing it and having done the save was a lifesaver.

    5) Unconform the G2F clothing from G2F. Don't just change the parent figure to G2M. It doesn't always seem to work well. Under the Parameters tab, change "Conform to..." from G2F to "None". Do this for the suit, gloves and boots.

    6) Save the file.

    7) Delete G2F.

    8) Save the file.

    9) Conform each piece of clothing to G2M. Make sure the dialogue box appears that asks what the original figure was for each piece of clothing. This time choose G2F as the original figure. You might have to try conforming the clothing more than once to have it kick in. Or restart DS and reopen the file. (Again, this is all based on my experiences. Your mileage might vary because of the computer and operating system you've got.)

    10) Done! Now you have a G2M Zero suit!

You can use these steps for Genesis too.

Oh, for the scarf.... Don't conform the scarf to G2F. DS will apply the G2F heirarchy to the scarf and you'll lose the cool morphs. Instead, treat the scarf as a prop and parent it to the neck.

    I hope this helps!

Sounds like it will, thank you very much for this! I bought the suit last night based on what you have said here. Thank you very much for your time in explaining this to me. I didn't know that was possible. Now I will be able to pick up other G3f/m sets and use them for G2f/m. Now if they could fix the autofit for shoes  laugh

Does G3F do something different than G2F so that the belt/Scabbards work on one and not the other? (I too am sticking with G2F for the now)

I think the deforming because of the autofit.

I just parented the belt to the pelvis for my g3m render.

I assume the scabbards can't be hidden, so that only the belt is visible?

  • Sphinx MagooSphinx Magoo Posts: 586

The scabbards can be hidden in the Surfaces tab by setting the Opacity to zero for each of the scabbard surfaces.

    Poor sentence structure, I know...

Maybe it works better if you say it out load with Mojo Jojo's voice.  ;)

    :D

That made perfect sense to me ^^ I just feel like an idiot for not thinking about the Opacity dial in the first place. :p

you can also hide them by clicking on the eyeball for their bone (if you're looking for nonsense sentences).

The opacity setting seems to work, been trying to make the sleeves transparent with zero luck. Sure I can make the sleeves transparent, but then so is the character's skin. I'm completely stumped. DS4.9 is rapidly becoming a pain in the peach...

I used a geograft trick when I made the set. The clothing hides the figure underneath it. This eliminates any chance of pokethrough, but it does get in the way of having a see-through or sleeveless set. There should be a way to restore the body. I just don't know it off the top of my head.

Select just one sacrificial polygon with the Geometry Editor tool, somewhere it won't show, then with the clothes fitted right-click and select Geometry Assignment>Set Auto-Hide Faces for Attachment, a dialogue will appear in which you should select the clothes. If you now unfit the clothes and fit them back the hidden faces will update.
