Yes. Most things transfer well (except the guys' pants can be tricky).
There's not a huge difference in the level of craftsmanship between Genesis 2 items and Genesis 3. There are good vendors and mediocre vendors for both.
You can autofit gen 2 clothes to gen 3, but as with any automatic conversion program the results are not always optimal, and will not be as good as having an item custom crafted and rigged for your figure. Some items will convert better than others. High heels are notoriously problematic, for example, or long skirts if you don't have something like SY Ultra Templates to enhance the conversion. Moreover if an item has for example custom bones to pose some parts then when you use autofit they will be lost during the conversion, so the converted clothes will have less functionalities than the original one.
I'm not saying it's not worth trying to use them, most items convert well, and that will give you more options to choose from. But don't expect it to work flawlessly for everything.
You might see a difference when using a particular official Gen3 shape too: with clothing made for Gen3 you might have a custom morph to support that shape, with converted clothing you'll have to rely on automatic morph following.
Sometimes. The problem I have is with things like neckties, or men's shirts. You can get a fair amount of mangling in the conversion process which makes them sorta useless if you don't have a lot of time or know-how to fix 'em.
I've used v4/m4, genesis and genesis 2 stuff on my g3f/m either via autofit or wear them all, that's been great sometimes there's been something hasn't worked but rarely why do I use older stuff well simple like it and there may not be a g3 version + I like to kit bash and or combine different bits and pieces just gives you more choices
I occasionally go all the way back to the third generation (some A3 outfits). I often end up using the transfer utilitiy for additonal tweaking when auto-fit trips up. Just be careuful with "use near verticies". WHen I brought Paragons and Paladins over I had to bump that up and ended up with a huge polygon count (I thikn 450megs+ IIRC -- that scene always takes forever to load). On the other hand, the transfer it worked (M4 to G2M) well enough to use.

The crotch area has been a problem for me -- Lara Croft style action poses and e.g. even horse riding poses can make problems there obvious where a walking pose would not. Oh, and shoes are the worst. I end up using shoes from G3 native outfits more often than not.
