Thread previously entitled "ironman13 Includes ERC Dials in New Expression Set"
That's right. The most prolific expression (OK, most prolific anything) artist included ERC dials on her latest expression set. Joining the ranks of Diane (who has been doing so for a long time) and Zeddicuss (who converted this year), ironman13 has given the user built-in flexibility with her expressions. You can always make your own, but it's a hassle. Here's hoping this is a new policy of hers and not just a one-off.

What is ERC?
I think it's Enhanced Remote Control, and it gives the user a slider so that gradations of the expression can be attained (like a morph dial). This way many expressions can be combined with each other to get subtle nuances rather than being stuck with the usually over-the-top expression you get from one-click.
Glad to hear it. I was disappointed that their George expressions sets didn't come with dials.
This is good news!
I have lots of useless expressions that either change the base morph, or apply so much of the morph that the character looks like a freak.
These dials can make the difference between a useful product and a waste of cash.
I hope this is a new trend!
JD
I think this will be a trend as ERC dials are something that the community wants by-and-large. I personally wonder if it's possible to do ERC dials with poses...
Thanks.
I've never even thought of that idea, but wow, wouldn't that be awesome if it were possible??
I mean, it should be possible, especially if a pose was loaded as a 'morph', right?
I think you could but you could also just use the animation timeline to set the pose at some future frame and then you can pick any frame you like between starting pose and the finish pose to do the same thing.
This was the #1 factor in my purchasing them on release day, and they are now my favourite expressions.
Also they have labels as to what sorts of expressions they are - I bought the Zeddicuss ones too but they were just labelled by number which makes them basically useless as a time saver :/
I bought the expression set yesterday beacause there were in dial form also, but they aren't any dials from the pack in the paramerters tab, I looked in parameters, head, expressions. Are there any others with the same problem?
I wouldn't have bougth it if it didn't include dials.
Usually the experession dials are under Pose Controls -> Head -> Expressions
That's where Iooked
, posecontrolls, head, expressions, I wrote wrong in my former post.
I just tested it and for some reason you have to manually select the head rather than just have an overall selection as usual, then the dials will popup.
You're right, I tried selecting the head and then they appeared, Thanks for helping me out! :) I didn't think of selecting just the head
I was really confused because I used them just yesterday but suddenly couldn't find them when I tested.
It would be nice if maybe this could be fixed so that they appear the same as all other morphs (I don't know how to reorganise dials though (or I'd have reorganised the ten billion HSTW morphs that are all in the wrong place ages ago...))
There is this. I bought it, but I have not needed it since my recent clean re-install: All the morphs (and there are tons from HSTW, Zev, Dogz, etc.) pretty much went in a logical order. Never had that happen before.
That seems potentially quite useful - not sure I entirely understand it from the description though. Buying a product just to fix badly organised products I've bought and then reorganising them all sounds like kind of a pain though. I'll wishlist it for now - thanks for the link!
Agreed! Took me some time to figure out the missing head/ expression morphs issue can be "solved" by selecting the actual head in the scene manager.
This, coupled with a few 'ego vendors' who - instead of respecting Daz3D file organization convention - clutter up BOTH the library and the /data folders with their own folder structures.
Unfortunately we're not allowed to name/rate/review the bad apples so customers will have to learn from experience.
My first 2 years with Daz3D is not about CG learning but proprietory file format maze orientation and 'how to power-Google to find daz fundamentals'!
People who joined after 2014 probably had it easier, now there are some basic official user PDF guides and even advanced video tips so things are improving which is good.
It's definitely very cool for morph vendors to mention ERC dials. Because Genesis 3 has face bones, and some users use G3F for animation, morph quality control is even more important today than yesterday.
As the character system become more refined and sophisticated, more comprehensive and RELEVANT product details and description will be expected.
I'm more stringent these days with content buying - will give more attention to vendors who understand current gen user needs!
I thought Ironman13 was more than one person, just not a single PA.
She is one young woman. She has never mentioned a team or a band of elves. She's just serious about her output.
Thanks for the mention re: my expressions and how I create them. It's how I would want to use them so always figured others would prefer control dials too. Makes sense. I try to keep them easy to find by creating a separate folder as well as different colour too. Bright blue or pink lol.
It's also possible to create poses as control dials. I've never really thought about creating my pose sets that way but will definitely look at adding that feature if that's what customers would prefer that?
And I'm also pretty sure that Ironman13 must be more than one person. As a full time PA, I can't imagine creating that number of products lol unless I give up sleep completely ;)
I was under the impression that Ironman13 was a husband and wife team LOL. I'm sure I've seen it said that it's not just one person.
Diane, would love to see what poses as control dials would be like!!!
AFAIK is at least her and hubby, but I also thought there were other people who take up some of the pressure.
This is great news! I always prefer dials over injection type morphs and expressions.
Good news!
I realized that out of my expression packs there is only 1 that I can use all the time and which always gives a good result:
* Feel It! Mix and Match Expressions for Victoria 7
There are two others that I do own, but they make the characters look very silly most of the time, I don't know why. Not sure about the second one, but the other one is this:
* i13 100 Essential Expressions for Victoria 7
After buying two expression sets where I had to find out they don't look good on most of my characters out of the box, I stopped buying expression sets - despite I'd really like to have more like the "Feel It!" one, which does something different somehow, whatever it might be. But I'm not keen on try&error&refund, so I don't buy more of these at all. Lose-Lose situtation, I'd say. :-(
If I can have more control over the expression, like sliders, it might get better? Might give it a shot.
mork, EmmaAndJordi do good work and their Feel It works because it's more natural and normal looking (despite the heavy lipstick everyone stuck with at first for V7). Some other sets are too extreme or exaggerated. I go by the pictures and from years of experience. I might run into a clinker or two, but usually there are a few good ones.
Emma and Jordi! If they would convert to ERC dials then that would be great. I own all but three of their Mix and Match Expressions sets for Genesis 3 Female(s), and while the expressions do look just like the promos when used with the base character morphs they are made for, I NEVER use the base character morphs on their own. So, the more flexibility, the better.
Yay, Diane! Thanks for chiming in. If you hadn't used dials, I would not even know it was possible for a PA to do it. I really like the bold colours you use on your dials, and thanks for making them dummy-proof by putting them right in front of us. The last thing I want to do when working/playing with Daz is go on a hunt.
No. it is a collaborative effort. Nothing wrong with that at all, but more than one at least. In some cases others.
That would certainly explain a lot. But in all the interviews with her that I've read (4 @ Rendo), she's never mentioned any help.
