Its not the hair, Her face has an implied maturity to it. Kenji does not, hence the age disparity. I think he will be better paired with Aiko 5 that with 7. Can we see him with the other Aikos? Please?

    Great render BTW.

I can sort of imagine that.  Aiko 5 and 7 seem the most similar to me of all the Aikos (Aiko 6 seems to have a bit of the 'Girl' look to her and Aiko 4 and 3 both are very balloon-head toony to me (not a bad thing if that's what needed though).  I kind of like Aiko 5 the best personally, but think Aiko 7 is pretty good too, but I can sort of see the idea of pairing Kenji with Aiko 5, be interesting to see in a render though.

Okay, now I'm warming up to Aiko 7 and Kenji, Brightening up the render certainly brings out the toon style to the render. Love to know the postwork used to get the effect.

I render out an exr (via canvases) and then use photoshops Camera RAW tools (under filters near the top)  They're also really great for smoothing out grainy renders, if you're impatient like me and end renders early.

I never played with the "canvas" before, still learning iRay. I'll certainly will have to pay attention to it, now.

First Genesis3 character that made me want to buy it, particularly the Sasori character by Silver is terrific (not surprised because Silver does such fantastic work with female characters, so makes sense that this talent would carry over to pretty male characters too).

But I don't use Genesis3.  I've seen that the latest plugin addon for Gen X2 would allow me to theoretically take a Genesis3 morph/character and put it on a Genesis1 figure.  I'm wondering how well it works and how close it will come, I haven't picked it up because til now just haven't seen any Genesis3 characters that leapt out at me as outstanding must-have, but Kenji is excellent enough to make me consider it.

I am almost tempted too, George transfered over well BTW so if he can anyone can

That's awesome news, I'll have to pick it up and give it a try  :)

I do wish he had more hair. The last few male characters only bring 2 hairs to the male hair pool, and I always buy the hairs. Genesis 3 males seem to not get nearly as many hairs as gen 6 males did. Or maybe my memory is faulty. But the last few figures have only had 2.

I use female hair often on my male renders. A lot of shortish hair looks pretty good on male characters even if they are designed for female. And even some long hair looks good on the guys (of course I've always been a fan of men with longer hair lol).

Now that we have Girl, Guy, Aiko, and now Kenji, can we possibly hope for some toon style/graphic shaders in iRay?

I'm working on it, and I think a few others are too, but it is a bit like trying to drive a nail with a spongecake.

Hanabi, take my thanks as well for the mix renders. I think they all look terrific.

I really like the looks of Sasori and Ryo Hair is different, nice to have a variety.  The only thing I don't particularly care for is the Rainstorm turtleneck- why put something high collared on a sleeveless shirt that is going to be sweat producing and IMO uncomfortable?

    Because Cloud. :P

Sorry about that, Its just I really like how simple the lighting can be within iRay, I love the emission shader too, don't have to worry about trying to add lights to simulate a lamp or torch. Messing with the SSS helps somewhat, but having a more comprehensive approach would be nice.

I got Kenji for just under $40. I had to buy one of the new products to get the extra discount, but there were at least two things I would have minded buying. So that brought the total to $56 and that was still less than the $66 I usually have to pay for a new pro bundle with my Platinum membership discount.

hmm.. Suneko Outfit Textures showing as $14.95 with no opening day discount, drop in the cart with Kenji and it now shows as $14.05  -- very expensive texture.

It was $4.40 last night when the items were released. But this evening it's lost it's discount.

Which means that I'm not buying anything until this is fixed.

I like those white horns in the texture expansion. Given I'm only buying the two hairs the wizard poses and that outfit I can wait.

So DD & I didn't have time to make a Kenji character like we wanted to, buuuut... I decided to see how he'd look as a redhead. This is DC Mira on Kenji base (using SloshWerks's Genesis 3 UV Swap: Male and Female Base). Outfit is midnight_stories's Stone for Genesis 3 Male(s) and set is The Backstreets by Stonemason. Lighting is the default with the headlamp turned off. I suck at lighting.

Looks great, ChangelingChick! I love that attitude in his stance and expression. Nicely done! :)

PS - I'd love to see some Kenji renders (well, Sasori renders in particular) over at the Michael and Friends Appreciation thread. :D

I'm absolutely thrilled with Kenji.  The attached image is all Kenji, un-anime'd a bit with morphs, because -- I have no respect.  I used one mesh light (and environment), I used the skin as is and a new Capsces pose which rocked.

The thing that's so awesome for me is all these Daz characters provide genetics.  Why use them out of the box, when you can make the perfect imaginary boyfriend, then dump him and make another perfect imaginary boyfriend (I'm not very faithful to my imaginary boyfriends.)

If I may be so bold, I think the artists take more risks with the male characters than the female ones, which is great for me being that I focus on the male form.  But...just saying.

Appologies if this sounds crass, but as someone who is after realism in her renders, I'd love to know how you got that ...ehem ...bulge in the render. I'm pretty new to rendering males but when I render them with tight clothes it looks kind of bad when they don't really have anything going on down there - as it looks pretty unnatural.

Genesis 3 Body morphs come with a bulge I believe and clothing should autofit it.

Select the character. In the Shape tap, go to "Hip", and look for a morph named "Genital Bulge".

For G3M, you'll need this morph set: http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-body-morphs

But I think there's also a freebie available somewhere.

Some characters also come with a Gen bulge morph. Maybe checking out the hip section in the shaping tab shows you already have a bulge for a character. That can be used with any other character without a problem.

Genesis 123 head and body morphs for either gender are insanely useful if you're making characters the way you want them - probably the only "essential" things in the entire store for using Genesis in my opinion. You can do an unbelievable amount with just those morphs and the free Genesis characters ... which new users tend not to find out til they've bought a ton of random figures etc.

Thank you. :) Yeah, I definitely want to get all the morphs. I've just been waiting for them to be on sale enough for me to afford them. The G3F and G3M morphs haven't gotten a really good sale since I started doing 3D art (as far as I know). But I've been keeping an eye on them. :) Hopefully I won't have to wait too long.

You could stick a sphere there and add a smoothing modifier to the pants to collide with it

Ignorant question that I've always wondered: is it possible to make clothing or whatever collide/smooth to more than one object at a time?

GenX with the add ons for Gen 2 and 3 work very well.  I don't really use Gen1 figures but I have been getting good results taking V4 to Gen2 and Gen3 and Gen3 to Gen2.  Check out the GenX2 and Genesis 2 AddOn thread and the Genx3 announcement threads
