Perfect imperfections

Sometimes the 3d figures are too perfect.  How about nails that are not well manicured?  Nails that were once painted two weeks ago but the polish is coming off slowly?  Nail morphs to make the nails looked chewed on or other reasons they are not perfect.  Nail polish that is sloppily put on with polish on the skin and parts of the nails not have polish.

Make up that is put on too quickly and a tad sloppy with hair that has not seen a brush this morning or maybe yesterday?

What else could be done to make Victoria look sloppy?  Dirty clothes with holes in them?   By the way where are all the frumpy clothing that is full of wrinkles and messiness?

Well you can always mess up something and make it look bad and dirty. The opposite is usually more difficult (well at least in real life, it may be different in CG, in some cases).

Dynamic clothes can sometimes pull off a more 'frumpy/casual' feel. Might need to find some wrinkly fabric materials, though. And yes, adding dirt or grunge to materials, and holes and tears. I usually do that in post, though. Just seems faster. For this cover, the shirt is dynamic, to get that 'frump' feel. On all clothes and hair, I used grunge and blood shaders. I used LIE wounds. I added the tears to the clothes, exposing skin and cuts in post. If I remember right, the cuts and tears are Ron's. I have a few 'bad nails' and 'bad teeth' sets, but they are for V4, so that may not help you.

I like the idea of imprefections.  Definitely leads to more realism.

"Perfect" is relative, it depends on what you expect or want. If you want ugly and dirty, ugly and dirty is perfect.

I love this stuff. One reason Aging morphs and Skin Overlay are two of my fave products.

Your mention of hair got me thinking, just having a few stray strands of hair out of place might be helpful, whether sticking up, in the way across the face, etc.  Might need an additional hair product to pull that off (or a deformed plane with some of the hair material on it.)

Same with clothes; bend up the corner of a collar on one side, have one pant cuff or sleeve folded and the other extended so it doesn't match it's twin, have a button unbuttoned or a zipper just a bit down or a sweatshirt hood drawstring that's tied in a knot on one side but not on the other, or a shoelace that's coming loose on one foot or has one end frayed out.

Of course, changes to materials to add dirt, mud, accidental ink or newsprint on fingers, (remember newspapers?  when I was yer age... etc. haha- ahem), ink/mud fingerprints on nearby objects,  bruises or cuts, tears or wrinkles in clothing, etc.

Or you could also modify the situation the character is in.  For example the character could be off balance, blowing that annoying stray hair strand out of the way of the face, accidentally getting a tip of a sleeve or corner of a clothing item in their meal without noticing while gesturing or being tired while eating, trying to carry too many items at once with some spilling out of hands or caried containers, off plates, etc.  Or one forgotten curler left in (Is that possible or likely? don't know), or a braid that's slipping loose.  For kids or pets, that milk or chocolate or kool-aid mustache around the mouth or on whiskers that they just don't seem to notice.

bags under the eyes from lack of sleep, or red around eyes or nose from allergies or a cold.  Matted fur or burs in pet's fur. Piece of paper stuck unnoticed to bottom of shoe heel.  Lint, leaf or twick stuck to clothing.  Loose threads or faded spots on clothing.  Bleached hair that's dark at the roots where the original color is coming back.  Dirt under fingernails.  Crumbs on clothing.  Asymetry of features (one ear or eye just a tiny bit higher than the other.).  Birthmarks, an unusually big freckle or mole, paper cuts, hangnails, a really old scar that's healed over but still faintly visible as a different pattern on the skin, sunburn, dandruff.  One eye a different color.  Bad shave job with a few whiskers still there.   A piece of jewelry or watchband that is starting to come loose, break, or separate.  Clothing caught on something (nearby object, caught in zipper, hooked on watchband, etc.).  Broken (and subsequently crookedly healed) nose or finger.  Bandaids, casts, nicotine patches, mosquito bites.

Bad teeth (See the various "Dental Plan" products, such as http://www.daz3d.com/dental-plan-for-genesis or one of the other generations.).

That piece of spinach stuck in your teeth that everybody is too polite to say anything about so it's there all day.  Fly unzipped. Shirt accidentally put on inside-out.  Really old socks that have lost their stretchiness and are just sagging down around the ankles.  Mismatched socks.  Tatoos with unfortunate spelling errors.

Braces.  prosthetic limb or eye.  Minor birth defects (one finger slightly dwarfed), minor shape differences (really knobby knees or hooked nose), minor ailments (vericose veins, black eye, butterfly rash, swelling.).  Glasses with the nose rest taped together.  Scratched glasses, or bent frame, or on slightly crooked.  Pre- or post-sneeze epression.  Gap in teeth or slightly angled or chipped or missing tooth.

Nervious tic or limp, or stumbling slightly or or walking awkwardly in heels if you are doing animation.

Now that it's too late, we should ask if you had a specific goal in mind so as to narrow suggestions closer to your preferences....

I love imperfections and it's the driving force behind a lot of my art.

Here's a recent work with elements of that: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Hopes-and-Fears-604808190

This thread also inspired me to revisit my 'Old Yanmei' render from about 8 months ago: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Old-Yanmei-569746004

I'm pretty happy with it, but I've learned a LOT since then and have more tools to work with, so attempting something more ambitious.

Is there a dental plan for genesis 3?  I would love a dental plan for them.

We could use dirt under fingernails too, for when Victoria has been gardening without her gloves on, and watermarks at the bottoms of jeans and trousers to suggest that she's just been out in the rain and splashed by passing prams and pushchairs etc. Or maybe just a tidemark round her neck to show that soap and water is not her first priority!

Your'e talking about Victoria 6 or 7, right? That modell will never, under no circumstances, be seen somehow less than perfect. Look for a more normal female. :-)

True Victoria's looks are perfect but she is an actress who plays a woman who bites her nails and shops at the local thrift store.
