I also find it very frustrating at times after looking at the store, then going to the forums, to be told I'm being signed out, and then having to re-sign in again!

There''s certainly a forum problem that needs urgently fixing, and others have mentioned this too.

I dislike how the new forum software handles images stretching and distorting them. I like how I could always view pictures better in the previous software. Also the notifications say nothing.

There was an update not too long ago, a month or two back, and since then I haven't had any issues with the "log-out loop" that used to plague me. However, I have noticed the forum has to sign me back in after making a purchase. It would be nice if they could fix that, but at least now I know when to expect it. I use FF 47, too.

Oh and posting on a cell phone is hard. The quote feature is difficult to use

I recently started a new message board, and found a premium solution for it, called xenForo.  I am so completely in love with it that I would be willing to give DAZ the money needed to license a copy - no strings attached.  I am that frustrated with the logouts.  I would just need a few weeks to save up for it.

I too spent years silently cursing at the endless logging in loop.  Recently I made a new log-in, deleted all cookies and signs of any Daz account (including the Google-analytics super cookie) and found that it's working...so far...with fingers crossed.

I can attest to Nyghtfall's message board.  It runs like a champ and is brilliant to use.

    :: waves ::   :)

  • The problem I've been having over the weekend is the complete inability to create a new thread. I was creating my post and the "Cancel" notification kept popping up by itself (this is what happens when you press the Cancel button when starting a new thread with "New Discussion"). When I dismissed this notification pop up and continued with my post the Post Comment, Save Draft and Preview options did nothing—only the Cancel button worked. On numerous occasions I've not been able to post and had to clear cookies, but with this problem that didn't work. I have to say, in all the forums I've posted on over the years, which are many, I have never had the problems I'm having here.

From the Daz end, they want something that integrates with Magento so that they don't have to maintain two different user databases, which is entirely understandable. They've said as much, now and again. And as aggravating as Vanilla is (seriously, that's what it's called), ExpressionEngine, which came before it, was much much much MUCH worse.

Of course, there were the long long long long long long LONG ago halcyon days of UBB .... but that also involved a massive hack between the store and the board to maintain a common user DB. Since the store itself was a massive hack, that was a tad problematic, as well.

There's also the related issue that they'd need to either figure out the import/export of getting Vanilla posts and users into anything else, or else they'd have to simply archive the current board and restart from scratch. Again. Given that the user base reacted somewhat ... badly to the archive option when it was done before, and that they'd need to maintain active connections between the archive board DB and the current user DB and the new forum DB to make it at all usable, it seems like a major security issue.

Besides, they have other things on their agenda, like rolling out the new Genesis 4 figure on Tuesday, and then taking over the world and then the galaxy and then ... Oh, no! I've said too much! no no no no no AIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEE!!! Not the mallet! NOT THE MALLET!!!

I think the forum is OK, and generally don't have any problems with it. And if a problem only affects some users it's not a problem with the forum, otherwise it would affect everyone.

I always log in at the store first, after that I'm always automatically logged in to the forum. Normally I'm using IE11, occasionally Chrome.

The forum software isn't the issue, it's the store software that's the problem, it keeps logging people out without them being any the wiser, so when they come to the forums it's software is being told to also log you out.

If you use the store as your bookmark then always click on that little blue icon top right, that way you'll know if the site has lost your login.

I must've missed their posts.  I don't remember them mention the user database.

Then I'll update my Favorites and see how that goes.  Thanks for the tip.

I find it really hard on my phone to write posts in the forum. Especially the quote feature. It is impossible to backspace and delete the extra stuff that is quoted. And if you click quote on a post, then there is no way to discard the draft.

On my phone it strips all carriage returns and makes it a big block of annoying text. :/

I kinda like logging in... It's like an affirmation of my existence... A celebration of my ability to... Oh who am I kidding...  I'm no good at being positive about stuff like this... It's just friggin annoying.

I don't have the store as my bookmark... Just "The Commons"...

About that little blue Captain Pike icon... When it was first introduced, it used to change when you logged out... But for me it always stays blue and has the little circle checked, regardless of my logged in status... Does that thing even work like that anymore?  Does that happen to other people too?

To be honest I don't recall if thats the same on desktops too, as 90% of the time I visit here on my iPad or worse, my iPhone... Granted, tablets and smartphones are just a fad, so I'd understand there being issues with bleeding edge software and these newfangled gizmos that will probably be forgotten in a few months.

Does anyone else get the bug where on occasion you are in the middle of writing something and suddenly the site seems to log you out, but instead you are taken to the "How to become a DAZ affiliate" page? I like that one... It's very creative... I'd have made it take you to a site that sells erotic toaster ovens, but hey that's probably too difficult.

My guess is just like all software related difficulties, this probably happens to more people then those who choose to complain about it, because not that many bother to complain about stuff or really care that much... Think about how many people don't complain or are not bothered by defective consumer products or dangerous conditions in their work place or public areas... Who cares about a stupid forum, most people are fairly apathetic about stuff as long as it's not actively trying to kill them or interfering with their WiFi signal.

It only goes white if I log myself out, if the store software kicks me out then it stays blue.

He's blue Jim! He's always blue, I don't know the point of it but it does bear a resemblance to Chris Pike.

I'd never voluntarily log myself out... Too lazy.  Maybe back when they first installed the little blue booger I was getting completely logged out by the software... That I can recall, I only logged myself out once... Back when the software was soooooo wonky I said "F¥¢& this, I'm outta here..." And stayed away for probably a year or so...

Lately staying away is becoming easier...

@ StratDragon   I didn't come up with the Pike thing... I actually thought it was either you or Fixmypcmike... but does kinda look like him in that life support wheelchair thing...

it could be either of us, but I am a unabashed nerd and have tried the Vulcan nerve pinch in order to prevent grade school wedgies.

And by grade school I mean senior year of High School.

Define "mobile friendly", because most sites aren't if you're talking about their mobile site.

I have a Favorites folder for message boards I frequent.  The Commons was on that list.  I also have a Favorites folder for 3D Art stores.  DAZ's store is on that list.

Following your tip, I removed the forum from my list of message boards, and have been accessing it from my DAZ Store Favorite.  After a couple of days using that approach, it seems to work.

Unfortunately, I still get logged out when following a link from another site.  Case in point, I posted a link to a thread here on my board.  Upon testing the link, the board logged me out.

...I wonder how many fewer duplicate threads we'd have if they had a decent, intelligent search routine again. the old pre Magento forums may have been a pain ,to coordinate with the store site but the search function was way better than what we have now.

...and I want the ability to post new user animated icons again.

...and be able to use my browser's spell check that actually flags three letter words with typos.  Tired of having to retype misspellings like "teh, "hte" "adn" etc. and getting oddball correction suggestions. There has to be a database of the most common occurring misspellings.

The forums here LOOK fine design wise but yea, the logging out thing because of the glitch in the store with it's stupid limited cookie life span is QUITE annoying. Not going to bother with a long drawn out paragraph... just a waste of time apparently!
