  • It will help if you are able to give specific details on the harware.  Generalization is harder to answer because your idea of high end may be different.  The best option is an X99 motherboard and a CPU that handles 40 pcie lanes or more.  Then spend the rest on a couple 980 Ti then add whatever else you want after.

I notice you have a much better Z87 motherboard in PACK2 compared to the previous post. laugh

You could probably do without the 1 x 970 if it's just for monitors. Just use the on-board graphics for the monitors and you'll have room for a fourth 980ti. yes

If this is just for Iray then PACK 2 and 3 x 980ti is easily the better option.

PACK 1 has better 3Delight performance, is a bit more future proof, more expandable, but obviously more expensive.

Can you wait till August? We should know more about the nvidia 1080 and Iray by then.

  • Thanks for comment prixat! I have two 980 ti, a 970 and a msi h81 e33. I'm using the 970 for now. I'm looking for a better pc but I'm very confused about which component I must buy. My knowledge with pc components is zero. I don't know how to change and in which slot I must install a graphic card yet that's why I made the other post I saw processors that cost more than one thousand dollars and motherboards that cost more than 600 dollars. I thought in PACK 1 because is more expandible and a bit more future proof than PACK 2. Imagine that both PACKS have the same number of graphic cards. There will be a huge difference in rendering performance?

Graphics cards are essentially self contained and will run the same on any system. (Unless you have a really poor power supply, the wrong motherboard, bad case cooling)

You're right, if you already have the graphics cards, then PACK 1 makes more sense.
