Must admit, I didn't like him when I looked at him on my phone while at work. When I got home and saw him on the monitor it was a different story. Someone said he fits several genres, and I agree. I may get the Pro bundle of this one for sure.
Good job daz for doing something so different but yet so needed for g3m. yes

I agree the body looks a little toony - but a few more  body morphs dialed  in turns Ivan into one of the strongest male characters Daz have yet produced.

Nice body hair on the figure, Timsw, what texture did that come from?

I'm confused about the Poses though, I would have expected a different type of pose set than what was given, but oh well.

This is because they are apparently a re-tooled Lee 7 pose set.

I thought the name sounded familiar.

I quite agree about the Pavel character. He just looks 'wrong' all over and I can't see myself in a rush to use him. I don't think he'd have made it onto many hard drives if he hadn't been part of a bundle.

Hmm. Well, I'm trying to test the stuff I buy immeadiatly to see if I like it.

The eyebrows on the two included characters seem really high and arched to me and stand out too much. Way too plucked looking and elfin. They remind me of Sarek. Pavel in particular has extremely strange eyebrows. They are really odd looking when I render them and not to my taste at all. They are dark.. And dominate his face. Looks strange.

So far, I like the base, and Thomas  hair from the set. I'm thinking of just returning the pro pack and buying those two.

Testing of miles hair... It looks mangey.

Sorry, I'm not liking this bundle at all.

I'd like to see what Ivan looks like in this: http://www.daz3d.com/veteran-war-dog-for-m4, http://www.daz3d.com/wardog-for-genesis
He might make a good colonel.

I really love that they went another way other than typical "hunk". This is a great figure. Is anyone else bothered though by his arms? Those T-Rex arms just ruin (for me) all the renders I've seen of him. I'll probably eventually get him when he's on a bigger sale (as I don't have the money to buy him right now), but I hope those of you who bought him consider lengthening his arms. I'd love to see more renders of him, but those arms ...I'd love to see some renders of him with more body proportionate arms.

btw I did not made the release but preparing stuff for Ivan , another veteran so he don't hung out with granddaughters only , just with my own morphs for the head and body , kinda freak style

you don;t need Ivan to use the morphs but for the skin you need Ivan base textures

his name is Chad .. Ivan's skin with custom morphs and material settings

Very impressive Mec4D! He looks great!

Nice image! I like the base figure. He looks good and dialing in a little of his head morph say 10 percent helps reduce some of the doll qualities of gen 3 males

    I love him.

Just noticed this in the gallery. This is the kind of thing I was also wanting to see. I'm thinking even with a few draw-backs, pro bundle is still the way to go price wise. Thanks for posting, and GOOD job! yes

Eh, just get UHT2 and add streaks or whatever. :)

I hate the "just buy x addon" argument because while it works as a bandaid, it does nothing to tell PAs the things we think are missing from their products.

I can and do use OOT's hair shaders for many renders, but that doesn't mean a PA should sell a hair with just UV maps and shrug and say "well just buy an addon if you want it coloured."

@MEC4D that Chad render is amazing.

@MEC4D, are you making a character set for Chad for Ivan to offer for sale in the store? Or were you just experimenting to see what you could do?

I would buy Chad in a second! He looks fabulous! :).And for what it's worth I think Ivan is the most original character Daz has ever released. I'm loving him and I'll use him a lot. The Genesis 3 characters have been a love/hate thing for me. I find most of the females to be same old/same old, but the male characters I've been thrilled with for the most part. Snapped up Kimo and Ivan both on sight.

I still think it's weird that both Pavel and Konstantin have NO body hair, not on arms or legs and no stubble...  I think that would be OK on a guy like Lee, but just doesn't seem to fit this burly character. Maybe one waxes, but both? Going to play musical carts to see if it's cheaper to just get what I want, or the whole bundle... If those guys had a body hair and stubble option, I would definitely had purchased the pro bundle without hesitating...

Fiberhair works MUCH better than hair painted on the texture, especially in iray. There are a few bodyhairs for Genesis 2 that autofits just fine on genesis 3 and there are some freebie beards on laticis' deviantart page, as well as one in Rendo's freepository. Painted hair doesn't have the depth of fiberhair and is prone to stretching depending on the body morphs you use. I have the real hairy product here at daz but this is a Daz original you can use one of your coupons on and autofit it. http://www.daz3d.com/unshaven-body-hair-for-genesis

Fiberhair also has the advantage of allowing you to not using all the hair, such as you may want hairy arms and legs, or maybe varying hair on differnt characters. You simply won't have that flexibility with painted hair, so I'm glad the textures are made this way.

Oh, and may I say that Unshaven for Mike 6 (Mec4D) works fine for the most part on the Genesis 3 guys. I use it all the time, even more than the Whiskers for G3 Males. Unshaven looks more natural to my eye, tho I've used them both.

I'm still waiting for someone to make decent fibermesh eyebrows for the Daz people. ;)

I suspect Lucian is either manga or vamp.

could be both, both can really when you think about it

  • ANGELREAPER1972ANGELREAPER1972 Posts: 4,564

Hmm. One thing that is odd to me is neither hair comes with a gray hair color. Are these hairs really made for this character? The poses seem made for Lee, but surely a man this age should have some silver hair options. I'm beginning to wonder if the content in this set is cobbled together from other packs.

that gives the option to buy texture packs maybe from out of touch

I like the way his head looks, but his body looks almost toonish to me. A more realistic body would have been appreciated.

We haven't seen Ivan 7 HD yet wink

haven't had a chance to play yet but from the details on him already the hd version should be most impressive like lee 7 hd haven't got that addon yet but from promo the added detail looks one of the best as should ivan hd

ivan's expression poses - z barbarian expressions can be found in paremeters/pose controls/head, doesn't appear in smart content with other poses

Heh.  I started the thread with the phrase "late forties-ish skin" as I didn't want to catch too much flack from the more a few folks who don't look that good at age 50. Examples:  ex-rancher WIlford Brimley was just 49 when he starred in Coccoon, heavy drinking Robert Shaw was 48 when he played Quint in Jaws, Danny Trejo was 50 in Desperado and, heck, just look at the crews on the Deadliest Catch.  A little hard living can really pile on the face leather and I get the impression that Ivan has had a rough life.
