Poser Content: did I miss a memo?

It looks to me like Daz3D is no longer supporting Poser with new content.

Is that true?

Did I miss an announcement?

(grabs some popcorn and a beverage to wait for the responses, LOL)

There are ways to make genesis figures work in poser, but not natively since DAZ came out with new tech (different rigging, shaders, etc) and for whatever reason (lots of speculation) neither company found a way to make genesis figures work natively in both programs.

You probably need to separate DAZ3D from the PAs that broker items through them. As there are PAs that are making new content that works in Poser, DAZ3D does support Poser content. However PAs have to provide that content for DAZ3D to sell.

And as the years go on, more and more people have never owned or used Poser. We now have a new generation who started with Daz Studio and don't know anything about Poser.

poser content (non weightmapped) easier to finagle in carrara, imo.  and no shows shadow bones

  • It's actually the other way around you can load poser files into daz studio but poser can't load DS files !

It seems like there is a way to make Poser companion files within DS although I haven't tried it yet. There must be a way to export as an obj. I'm still learning DS myself. You can use G3 in Poser with a free utility at Renderosity, but I have no idea how the Iray shaders/materials would work, you'd probably have to experiment a bit.

Arguably true, but it appears that a majority of the new material has no way of being loaded into Poser, unless I'm mistaken.

I've spent much more time trying to deal with replacing what was lost when the hard drive died than I've spent playing and rendering for the last couple of years.

It's sounds like you're asking something different. DAZ3D still sells poser content, PAs have to provide it. And as Mclean said you have a new generation of PAs that don't have poser nor have an intention of buying it. That said some items can be imported into poser, but either you have to use the DSON importer for Poser or export from DAZ Studio and import into poser as an OBJ.
