Question about mesh lights in Studio

In Poser, you can select an object, select the Ambient Value and raise it, then enable Indirect lighting in the render settings and use that to light a scene. I need to know if it's possible to do that or something similar in DS 4.8 and how. Also which render engine will it work in? DS is NOT my app of choice, so detailed instructions would be appreciated.

Using the Ambient to light a scene is not possible...but creating/using mesh lights is...both renderers.

For 3Delight, you need to use an AreaLight shader...one comes with Studio, omnifreaker's UberArea.

For Iray, the Emissive shader (or setting a non-black color to the Emissive slot in the Surfaces tab for that particular surface).

Thank you guys for the answers. I'll give that tutorial a read this afternoon.

Now another question about Iray and Cycles...  I use Blender to make my models. Obviously, I can use Cycles for the most part to texture for Poser's Superfly, but can Iray translate any of the Cycles (not Superfly) shaders? For example. according to you guys, Iray and Cycles both have an Emissions shader. It's not big thing I suppose, but I could save a whole lot of time and effort in setting it up if it can.

Can Blender export its Cycles shaders as MDL files? Those can be sued with Iray in DS (theya re the standard format for Iray shaders).

I'm going to say 'not yet'...because there are plugins for just about every other renderer around for Blender.
