Are you purposefully trying to bring tears to my eyes? Your question is incredibly valid. Fact is, Genesis 3 never should have been shipped without Carrara compatibility. So the simple fact that it was launched in this state, and that after all this time it still doesnt work in Carrara....and that before long there will be yet another new generation Figure to content with...it's possible Carrara users might miss out on Genesis 3 altogether. Because we will miss out on all the intro sales, we will end up having to pay full price for any stuff we want. And buying it now when there is no certainty it will ever be compatible with Carrara is not going to happen.

They haven't even posted anything publically that states what their plans are with Carrara and Genesis 3. I mean, I think I read somepleace that compatibility was being worked on, but I've lost all hope for all of that.

"They" don't see Carrara as a priority.

    So seriously, why should we?

Sore subject, is all I'm sayin'.

This post will likely be removed my tomorrow morning.

Actually no it will save you lots of money Rasheed.

I was shocked enough yesterday when I added up what I have spent at DAZ the last 8 years, so product incompatibility and less future sales is probably a good thing at least in my case.

Carrara has an advantage the free DAZ studio does not have in that it will import rigged FBX and Collada dae formats from other software, the biggies like 3Dstudio Max and Maya as well as Blender, Adobe/Mixamo Fuse Makehuman and others like iClone pipeline, (I was even able to get rigged mesh from my Skyrim game in!!!) so maybe it is time to expand your horizons and seek 3D mesh elsewhere as well as learn to rig your own.

...at least there is more compatibility between G2 and older generations.  Changes to the G3 skin maps structure means older skins cannot be used without some form of conversion tool, and the added neck bone messes with older hair that uses the neck as the basis for morphs and styling.

Yes indeed sticking with G2 will save a lot of money.

Hi I am curious. is there any reason the male figure you wish to animate, in carrara, Has to be G3??? Is there some specific G3 only, character morph or clothing set that is crucial to your carrara animation and is preventing you from proceeding??

" . Fact is, Genesis 3 never should have been shipped without Carrara compatibility." LOL!!! Genesis 3 was shipped without DAZ STUDIO 4 compatibilty if you have any interest in animation. It is epic FAIL with animate 2. and any other DAZ STUDIO animation tools.

Genesis 3 uses a different rigging system than Genesis and Genesis 2.  The Studio version availalbe at the time of Genesis 3's release did have the new rigging system.  Studio was built by DAZ from the beginning so adding new code to it is probably easier than adding code to Carrara that was purchased from another company.

No, Support tickets are for malfunctions/bugs in the program.
The pointlessly exotic new rigging of G3 that adds nothing to the user experience IMHO, is not a bug it is a new "feature"frown

Genesis 3 is designed for one thing:
rendering still images in DAZ studio.
I abandons compatibilty with aniMate2, IClone,FBX exports etc.

If you are interested in Character animation use G2
    this is the reality....sorry.

They (DAZ 3D) know about it. Many Carrara users (including myself) entered tickets when G3F came out. Several months back someone from DAZ said they (DAZ) are working on G3F integration (I think it was in the DS 4.9 release thread), but since then all we've heard is silence. But it doesen't hurt for more people to submit tickets.

It's a shame, Carrara is such a great program, especially with the Octane plugin (with Carrara dynamic hair support), and the upcomming VWD Dynamic Cloth plugin (and all the other fantastic plugins). Maybe someday?????

I would imagine that the PA's are not eager to have to build all their G3 content to be Carrara compatible.

Particularly since the "loss leader" business model
of the free Daz studio gives Daz studio content development
an extremely low cost of entry.

To test products for carrara requires that one owns the latest version of carrara ($285 USD)
to say nothing of marketing& pricing your product
based the buyer having to pay for Carrara as well.

To me DAZ has made it clear G3 is here...Delivered "as is".
DAZ studio Still IRay renders Preferred.

People wanting Genesis 3 compatibility with third party tools
like Iclone, aniMate(technically) poser etc etc, will have to cobble thier own fixes, cludges, hacks & workaroundscool  .

Its not impossible as the poser users seem to have got it working for them on thier ownwink.

Except that Daz has made it explcitly clear that theya re working on Carrara support fot the Genesis 3 generation figures in Carrara - and that would prsumably include support content from PAs, though as with Poser content and content for Genesis and Genesis 2 there would be no guarantee materials would work without adjustment.

Note that the current third-party methods to get "Genesis 3" figures into Poser and other applications rely on sacrificing some features of the figure, which is why they are not supported by Daz.

That is certainly a reasonable position when it comes to sending Genesis 3  figures to other programs via third party solutions that compromise Functionality of the figure.
I would not expect DAZ to support such "hacks".wink

However the OP of this thread specifically stated:

"i'd prolly start buying stuff for gen3 if it worked in carrara animations"

Will Daz's Eventual Support for G3 in Carrara involve upgrading this:
    http://www.daz3d.com/animate-aniblock-importer-for-carrara

..and by extension the motion retargeting features of aniMate 2 in Daz studio itself to include Genesis 3 compatibility??

The only information I have is what Rob posted to the DS 4.9 thread, but it is something daz is working on (in general - I don't know particulars)

    I quote the expert

Both the aniBlock importer and aniMate itself are developed by a third party; GoFigure, to be specific. Will Daz itself update either solution? No, they are not developed or owned by Daz proper. Will Daz integrate any such update provided by GoFigure for either solution into the offering in the store and/or whatever portion ships with Daz Studio? Yes.
