recommending graphics card

My current card has Intel Chipset Graphics Card and from the Daz help files, it appears I need to update my graphics card. I think the rest of the computer will work fine with Daz (quad core, 8 gigs rams, etc).

I wanted to get something basic that will work with Daz. I'm not a gamer don't think I really need a top-of-the-line card.

Whe selecting a new graphics card, if I walk into BestBuy or go to openegg, any suggestions on what I should look for?

I've been looking and have not seen anthing about Open Gl specifics with the dfferent cards I've found.

Thanks for any tips.

What does the error in the log file say ? & are you currently able to load, pose & render figures or is the error preventing you from even getting started with Daz Studio?

Many issues can be solved by updating the current graphic cards drivers so you may not need a new graphics card just to use Daz (although you may still want to buy one eventually to take advantage of Irays GPU rendering)

You can update drivers from the manufacturers website or you can try the Windows update from

Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adaptors then  Right Click - & Select Update Driver Software

If you still have a problem then give a bit more information on where you are in the set up process then I am sure someone will know the answer :)

Every NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX Graphic Card will do (you need a NVIDIA to use iray)... personally I recomande a 880M as a minimum

If all you want is a  cheap and cheerful graphics card to drive your screen, I've found a 2GB Nvidia 730 works reasonably well.  If you intend to do Iray renders on your gpu then you need a card with 4GB or more of memory and as many cuda cores as you can afford.  I use an Nvidia 970 for Iray but these can be quite expensive.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

  • I missed this before. Thank you for the replies.

Incorrect you do not need a Nvidia to use Iray, if you have a Nvidia then iray can be faster if your card has enough Vram to hold the scene you are rendering, but Iray renders fine, slowly, but fine without Nvidia.

If you want to utilize DS and Iray to its potential you need to get a NVIDIA GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM

Maybe I missunderstand it but DAZ Help Center stated "...Iray is an NVIDIA technology and uses CUDA cores which are found in all NVIDIA GPUs, This means AMD (or ATI) GPUs will NOT be used for rendering with Iray..."  I thought this means that you can`t use Iray without an NVIDIA Card.

You can use Iray without having an NVIDIA Card  & in which case Iray will render using your CPU instead - CPU renders will take longer to complete

I'm looking also, I found it useful to narrow it down by power supply requirments, my pc has only a 375w. It might just manage a nvidia 750ti 4gb.

I have a 640 (384 cuda corres) at the moment which works ok

I was looking at this chart for quick rundown on the specs and then double-checking the power requirements ..  eg some say the 750ti will run fine on a 375w power supply.

  • I have to get something because I am still getting error that I need an Open GL card. I was looking at this card:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-oc-series-nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-2gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card/5066003.p?id=bb5066003&skuId=5066003

It appears to be one of the smaller NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX cards available.

Unforunately, it recommends to have at least 300 watt power supply. My power supply is only 255 watt.

Anyone have any suggestions on a card I can use to get by until I get a better computer? I have a quad core, but the graphics card and power supply are basic.

I have a gift card at BestBuy from a return, so something from their site would be great.

I just need something which will allow me to accomplish basic renders in DAZ (don't need iray now).

Can I get buy with using NVIDIA GEFORCE GT instead of NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX?

    Thanks for any tips.

Any new card should support a recent version of OpenGl sufficient to run DAZ Studio. If you look at the specifications for any card you are interested in, that should tell you what version of OpenGl is supported - most should indicate version 3.1. DAZ Studio only requires version 2.2 for graphics accelerated performance. If you are not concerned with using Iray but only 3Delight, then you needn't spend a lot on a video card at this time. Both Nvidia and AMD cards will work fine. Also, the graphics memory (on the card) is less critical as well. 1 GB should be fine. (And, yes, the GT line of cards should be OK).

okay so, do you need a super duper gpu (1080ti, rx480, tesla,) for 3delight renders? meaning NOT iray.

No - 3delight renders using CPU, the video card doesn't really matter.
