Content Library Storage Recommendations?(just advice)
I've been using Daz for awhile now (9mo) and I'm a shopping fool. I have been storing everything on my desk top along the path that DIM sets up which is to say on my C Drive. I haven't noticed any issues with anthing and can call up whatever I need for a render with ease. I was just wondering if there were any things I might want to keep an eye out for as I continue Daz'ing to my hearts content. I do have a TB external hard drive. Would there be any advantages/disadvantages to making that my "Daz Drive"? It's nothing urgent I don't think but I thought I'd ask before something bad happened and I wished I had.
Thanks everyone!

I've been doing 3D for about ten years or so, using both DAZ Studio and several incarnations of Poser. (As well as Hexagon, Carrara, Bryce, iClone, Blender, and a few others....) And one thing I have learned is that you simply cannot have too much storage. Because if you accumulate content like a lot of us, you are definitely going to need it!
I upgraded the hard disk in my current render system, from 1TB to 2TB, and gave the entire disk to my C: drive. Everything -- all of my applications, all of my data -- including my content -- are on that volume. So far, it's only a little over half-full, so I should be good for a few more months, or until 4TB laptop drives become common (and cheap!)
In addition, I maintain a copy of my content on a 1TB external, so I can use it with whatever computer I'm carrying around with me. (All of my computers have DS installed on them.)
I also archive my install packages, so I have external and network-accessible storage for that; a total of 15TB for that.
So, yeah, go ahead and use that big drive. And get a few more, that you can plug into your router....
The primary consideration would be how much storage space you have available on that boot ("C") drive. Your content library will continue to grow over time and so placing it on a relatively large drive to begin with is advisable. There are other reasons why separating data from system files and applications can be a good idea, but that can often be associated with both personal preferences and needs and specific system configuration. If you are anticipating switching your existing content library from one drive to another, please consult one or more of the threads here on the forums that deal with content migration beforehand, to avoid some potential difficulties.
Yeah I burned through a 1TB HDD in a short amount of time so I bought an 8 TB external HDD and it was the best $220 I have spent in along time. At the rate DAZ and Rendo are cranking out content I can see you going through a TB in no time if you're a content buying fool like me ;)
