I had 270 KB/s - for some seconds only, but I think I'll cancel the download of the next three parts of this shader for today.
EDIT: I just downloaded some smaller items, and everything was ok.
I too have a super fast connection but DIM is downloading at a snail's pace and connect is equally as bad..so my question isn't Why is it so slow...but...What is DAZ going to do about it asap to speed things up as many people are spending oodles of cash here and can't get their products in a timely manner. I have over 2000 items yet to download but at this rate it will take til Christmas to get it done!!!
I agree. Since the speed was reasonably good before they must have done something that has caused the decrease in speed. Clicking the Undo button should fix it I guess?
Selected: 34 (20.2GB) 251KB/s
Because I was told not to run DIM and DAZStudio at the same time (results in database errors) - the above mentioned speed tells me I can´t use DAZ for .... maybe a week ... rediculous!!!!!!!!
We are working on increasing the bandwidth for the DIM download servers. I don't have a specific timeline on how long it will take, but the gears are in motion on it.
Interestingly, I checked the download logs and the most often downloaded item is the 64-bit version of Daz Studio 4.9.2 for Windows. However, those shader updates are pretty high up the list and are quite gigantic, so with their powers combined we are just filling our current series of tubes.
Don't forget to feed and water the poor hamsters! Those wheels are sounding pretty squeaky.
Where do they keep the Undo Button? Right beside the Make Art Button?
Hm, I've never experienced any problems with that, I do it all the time. But maybe if you use Connect and DIM at the same time there may be problems.
OK, so it's just plain server overload.
That was an issue with the Valentina database - getting updates from both DIM and Studio was one of the ways to corrupt the database. Not an issue with Postgres.
Speeds seem somewhat more reasonable right now. I getting 7 to 8 Mbs instead of something down in the Kbs range.
I also have a fast connection and until recently" DIM worked great. Now I think I am in old dial up mode. Something must have changed somewhere. I hope it is fixed soon.
Ever since Daz changed what company housed their servers (or at least that's what I think I read on this forum from a poster with DAZ_ in front of his name), they have had download speed issues. They need to go back to their old company or switch to a new company that has their act together, (in the most simplistic interpretation of events, that is).
However, conspiratorially interpreting these Daz statements might lead one to think that this is actually the means to tolling the death knells of DIM so that voluntary adoption of DazConnect becomes de facto mandatory. One issue with DazConnect is that older products are not downloaded with the Poser files, and as a consequence do not work. Thus, the only method of accessing them is DIM or manual.
Time: 1am Central Time. Download speed for DIM is between 10.8MB and 11.6MB. No problems whatsoever. Am downloading 7.6GB of products to start with. EDIT: Now it's 13.5MB doing Bone and Fantasy Shaders.
OK, thought everyone used Postgres these days.
There are two reasons to not run DS while DIM is installing.
1. The database entries DIM makes will not show up until you restart DS since they have to be migrated.
2. If you install a DS update or a plugin while DS is running that can, and usually does, corrupt DS itself.
My internet speedtest says 4.30 mb/s but DIM is only downloading at 608 kb/s this morning and that is the highest speed I get with Dim, sometimes slower
Edit: did speedtest again gives me 4.9 MB/s...somewhere in DIM there is a problem,
I think for me it was the number of iray shader updates that hit my dimwhich which drug my machine into slowness. Each set was huge and I had like 20 updates.
But however fast your connection if there is a bottleneck elsewhere (in this case the Daz server) you will be limited by the speed through the bottleneck. Using Connect, which pours from multiple bottles, is one way to get around this - especially, as I understand it, fr content that others have been downloading too (so that it is on mutliple servers in the CDN).
DIM was downloading very slowly when I tried it yesterday, but today it has been very fast, and I have downloaded several GBs in a relatively short time, so I am guessing that either DAZ has made some corrections, or the bulk of its customers have finally stopped loading those shader pack updates.
