I tried to search the forums but kept getting the wrong things found, but back on topic. How can I use Ron's brushes and stuff? I see his stuff is on flash sale. I think I know how to use brushes but the other stuff I am not sure how to use them. Also what are the restrictions if any of using these brushes and resources? can they be used in texturing and character making or is it just for post work of renders?

Do you have Photoshop? (That shapes the answer)
I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 as I got a CS6 package before it went cloud subscription based.
Here is a list of ones I am on the edge about getting. Just not sure how to use them. (they are not in any particular order)
The first one says PS 7+, so... maybe won't work well?
I just picked up Impressions earlier today... when I finish current render I'll play with it. I THINK what you do is simply 'load brushes' and it should be paintable. You can scale the brush and so on.
I've found, at least in PS, the brushes pretty easy to use. Make a new layer, paint a bunch, and then you can either layer colors, create clipping planes, etc.
PS 7 is a lot earlier than CS 6 so it will work fine. There are several threads around where people have asked the same questions. Try searching using google search and adding Daz 3D Forums to the search string.
I've only just bought Impressions (downloading now) and so I haven't had time to do anything with it, but as far as I can tell it consists of PNGs that you can layer on to your work (and the same in PSD format) rather than brushes, so any program that can use layers ought to be able to do something with that one.
It depends on the product. Some are brushes, some are psd layers, some have png's, some have PS actions. Read the product description. There are several sites that have PS tutorials on how to use brushes, layers and actions. If you are not familiar with any or all, check them out. You can use the various brushes and layers to create 2d art. If the product doesn't clearly state it is a merchant resource or can be used as one, it's safe to assume it isn't. However, best to contact DAZ about such things.
Ill refer you to this render that I made. You may have already seen it. I reference it because I used both png's and brushes from Rons Explosions.

The brushes are sort of like rubber stamps You choose the size of the brush and colors that you want and stamp them onto ps layers. The smoke in the back and foreground of my pic was made from brushes.
The psd layers you can drop and edit where you need them to produce different effects. The blood, muzzle flash and fire were all cobbled from psd layers.
Just play with them on different layers to get different results and you should get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Glad I saw this thread. I was yearning to buy some of these brushes and see what I could do. I would have missed the sale.
So it says that these are DIM ready. If I install using DIM, will it ask me to locate my Photoshop installation? Or will it just install them into my Daz Studio directory.
I have bought other things like Fabrics and Merchant Resourse textures and it put those in the Daz Directory which just shows as an empty folder in Daz Studio.
Thanks.
You'll want to put the path location of photoshop into DIM. Dim will then install to photoshop if I remember correctly. It usually brings up a install helper for this. Or this is the way it worked by default for me anyway.
I purchased Ron's Explosions a while back. I have Paint Shop pro X7 and understand brushes but how do I use the PSD layers in this producct. So far the only way they load is as the complete, like 50 layers, at a time. Is there a way to install so you can pick a single layer from the set?
photoshop elements also works
Just make them all invisible, then check them out one at a time so you can see which is which, and just drag the layer/layers you like to your image...
This applies to most of the other psd sets.
Thanks Chris, thats also very helpful to me. That's a lot like what Ron said in the tutorial for his Flames brushes.
I somehow went to bed without checking out so I missed the sale.
Shame on you!
I thought I checked out but apparently I did not. I also went to sleep without brushing my teeth which I always try to do before going to sleep.
I installed some of Ron's brushes into Photoshop. I can see them in the preset folder under brushes. But I can't see them in Photoshop. If I try to load them, none of them show. I see all the other Photoshop brushes. Are these brushes for the non-64 bit version? That's the only thing I can think of as to why they don't show. Or is there some step I am missing?
Thanks.
64/32 shouldn't matter. Which version of Photoshop is this?
You have to load the brush set in PS. Some of the sets are quite large so it sometimes better to load one set, use the brushes and then load another set in it's place. If you are using a newer versio of PS (the cloud or even CS6) you shouldn't have any problems with any of the sets. Some of the brush sets use the brush dynamics. I'm not certain but I believe some of the older versions of PS don't have all the dynamic options.
my ;ist so far - been using PS since back in the days of floppies and I couldmake brushes, but these are so well done and save SO much time.

I have CS6 and CS5. I installed into the x32 version. I have trouble remembering which folder is the x64 and x32. I copied them over to Program Files\Adobe\Presets\brushes and now they work in both versions. (Not sure if that is the exact path...but you get the picture. When I installed, I put them in the x86 program folder.
I only install the 64 bit version of Photoshop but what would the advantage to install the 32 bit version too?
Got some Ron Brushes in today's sales (Horror Pack and some others are at their lowest !) and it's just, well... great !!
I didn't get .pdf tutorials though, are they included for every brush pack or just for very big things like Fire or Explosions ?
Not always - only in some of them (like the fire one). Many of the brush-sets don't really need a tut - just pick the brush, resize, re-angle, and pop it on the image (assuming a general familiarity with gimp/ps/other and layers and stuff).
Since there seems to be a Ron's sale, has anyone made something for DS that you can apply a Ron's brush to an object (like a transparent billboard) in scene easily? Something that makes it easy to select, apply, and then you could use the material settings to make it glow and stuff? (for example, if you used the sci-fi ones)
I get it that you can do a lot in postwork, but i hate photoshop...and do less postwork than most.
It shouldn't be too hard to turn some of Ron's stuff into decals with a transparent background and texture a plane with such a thing. Together with Griffin, he made Sci-Tech Overlays and Brushes Volume 01 which is exactly that: A collection of photoshop brushes and brush styles, and a collection of flat planes with one or more of these brushes applied to them. It's a fairly useful product for people who want to make sci-fi style holographic controls and panels, and fairly useful (and inspiring) for figuring out how to make such things.
I just grabbed Ron's Sci-Fi Custom Shapes Bundle, which should be relatively straightforward to combine with it as well. But, I guess some of his other products could be turned into usable panels as well, like some of the smoke products. Still have to do some photoshopping to make it work, but pretty straightforward even for people like me who aren't too great at photoshop.
