Isn't there some runic graffiti in Hagia Sophia, courtesy of the Varangians?

Yes, one of the history series on BBC4 a couple of years back showed at least one Viking equivalent of "Kilroy was here" etched into the upper balcony handrail by a bored guard.

(Yes, for the curious, Vikings. The Byzantine Emperor didn't really trust the Byzantine Army — for several very good reasons — so the Emperor's personal guard, the Varangians, were all very well paid mercenaries from all over Europe. Large numbers of them were Vikings. The rest... it gets complicated.)

Guessing before you see the image could bring up anything. Kind of like guessing on a name. What's in a name in this day and age? I have had Caucasian male and female, Korean male and African female friends called Kim.  Rune wouldn't be out of place as an Inuit name. My sisters name is Nimila. That name is used in Africa, the Middle East,  the Sub Continent, Asia, South America and the Pacific Islands, and in most cases can be used for either gender. When you go to the shop page and see the advertising and assume that is Rune, then she's another white girl. I guess I'm happy if Rune is of the same exceptional quality as the rest of the Daz Characters.

All written symbols have or can have the same power that Runes have or ever had, and they all tend to get used at some point in a profane manner. That is in the nature of many human beings.

LOL - Rune is a scandinavian male name. It means (alphabetic) letter or secret wisdom, and it was alluding to the magic powers of the letters and the written word. Bearer of that name are considered magicians, alchemists, librarians or bookeepers.

So when I hear that name I see someone like Gandalf or Dumbledore in front of me.

Why selecting it for a warrior queen beats me! laugh

(On the other hand there is a female form of that name too - Runa, but it is more uncommon and also connected to letter magic and witchcraft)

Enya is an Irish name, but look at that character.

I am wondering if I wait until tomorrow when Rune is available will I still get the 40% off if I purchase one of the items then or do they have to be purchased today to qualify for 40% off Rune tomorrow that is if it is a character/bundle I am even interested in

I really hope it's not yet another white girl with a varying level of spray-on tan, but knowing Daz and its userbase, it probably will be.

I really don't need another barbarian warrior queen or amazon adventurist.

I want a 5 foot 2 to 5 foot 4 housewife sometime. With kitchen equipment and poses for cake baking and bread making.

Could we please move away from the term "white girl"? Maybe caucasion would work better for some of us.

People from the south of India are also caucasian, and their skin color is very dark, so caucasian is a pretty wide category. It is more about face shape, not skin color.

If that one image posted of her eyes is Rune 7, then she looks like a white girl to me. With the face paint, my guess is some sort of ancient Germanic/Celtic warrior, possibly inspired by Queen Bodica.

That would be great.  I'm not familiar w/Queen Bodica, but I love Celtic folklore.

Boudica/Boadicea - Queen of the Iceni who gave the Romans a sneak peek of England football supporters. The one with the bladed hub-caps.

Why don't we have a "facepalm" smiley?

Thanks, Richard.   I believe I'll google her -- that bio sketch sounds interesting. laugh

When I googled Celtic, Rune, and Queen, what I got were references to Morrigan.  Morrigan is good, too.

Edit:  after reading the Wiki, it looks like Queen Boudica is a perfect model for a warrior queen.  Whee -- to quote Liam Neeson in High Spirits, "What a woman!"

I mean Caucasian is pretty much a made up term with no basis in scientific reality and the 2 terms it was used in comparison to are no longer considered fit for polite society. However since it was white folks using the terms the one they created to describe themselves never took on a pejorative tone, go figure ;) so it stuck around as a pseudoscientific word for "white" (I'm not a big fan personally)

But I'm not a big fan of "white girl" either. Less because of the white and more the "girl" though which in most contexts is generally disparaging (also really patronizing) when used to describe women.

Yes. I grew up in the Southern United States, and I don't know about now but back in the 70's and very early 80's "White Girl" was a quasi racial slur, at least in the parts I grew up it was. Always thought it sounded kinda bad on the Daz forums.

I am from the same region, and it is still considered such. In any case, I did not mean to derail the thread. Just gonna let it slide 'cause I don't want to see this thread get locked.

This was the first bit I actually found interesting so I had to go read about it. I had no idea it had such a history; I always thought it was meant to go alongside Asian (although I wondered why it wasn't just a continental name like the others.)

For me it's weird seeing people so heated over race. Growing up in a multicultural country, it was always more about country of origin (and this was more a choice than where you were necessarily born) rather than skin tone when lines were drawn. People from certain countries always thought things about people from other certain countries, but no one ever singled out people via their race.

Sometimes lines are drawn too frequently, in some areas of the South.  And stereotypes used too often.  As elsewhere, I imagine.  But hi, neighbors.

So, who has inside information about Rune?  Can they be bribed? wink

I'm shocked that Daz decided to tell everyone about her even one day in advance, let alone show an actual excerpt from her face. There's some good guesses in this thread... and some bad ones too. Only the Shadows know. Stay tuned!

Looking at her over-slanted eyes and wide nose and warrior make-up, I'm wondering if it's a total fantasy character, almost like Avatar...

    That'd be an interesting concept.

The picture shown just looks like a really flat old Japanese warrior painting type thing to me (not saying that's what the character would be, just the impression of that specific image.)

  • Yes she looks great been playing with her for a few weeks !!!

soooo something/one may be of real interest use to me? along the lines of luis royo, boris vallejo, julie bell extra style of fantasy female character? yeah i know your not allowed to say but I'm also guessing if you've had a chance to play with her that means either you've created something for the bundles or at least something in the extras not included in the bundles but part of her sales extras which gives me a rough idea going by your other scifi and fantasy products which does make her seem interesting

I'm not game to say, no it's a fitness outfit anyway. To be honest not many vendors make things for a specific shape we just put the extra shapes in if it's come out at the same time mine autogen works fine.

The image reminds me of a Samurai mask. But if her partner's name is Ivan, I'm wondering if the characte is from one of the Northern areas. Maybe she is Mongolian or from Siberia or thereabouts.

From what can be deduced by the image (if it is truly her), I'm going to go with European, maybe scandanavian, viking style, fits with "Rune" but that could be stereotype too. Noticing the grease/war paint/mud on her face I'd suppose she's used to getting down and dirty in war without concern. I don't know but I hope she will be an awesome character, and not a Vic 7 clone girl either.

My guess is Nordic Warrior but by this point we have more muscle women than Vic 7 clones (although Vic 7 is pretty well muscled too for some reason.) Pretty much all the official Daz women have rippling abs and insane height; I'd really like a break from that.

I know -- that's a first, announcing the arrival of a new figure even a day ahead of time.  A first for me, anyway. :-)

I'm tuned in.  This one interests me.  Maybe it's the name.  I've got a bag of runes. laugh

Is anyone gonna stay up till midnight. to get first glimpse?

that's ok but it is fun guessing and see how close some of us get that makes sense with the shape thing broadens your market base otherwise your heavily restricted by the character and who buys that to sell your products and autofit works pretty well mostly one tj6 outfit I bought for  my g2f ladies fits bethany 7 really nice too and she's a bigger gal, so you got something sporty huh hmm wonder if 80s style like that stuff not long till see guess
