Curious about how well this works
There are some G1 items I'd like, but, not willing to part with the funds if its not gonna be worth the effort.

Generally pretty well with the exception of shoes which sometimes can be wonkey (flats convert better than heels usually). G1 is flat chested so items fit to G2F will shrink wrap in that area which is fine for some style tops and not great for others. If you give us a list of the things your considering I'm sure the forumites here will have most of them to try for ya.
That sounds promising. Heres what I want to try:
Lolanthe Dress
Onyx
Dragon Queen for G1F
I just looked, and Onyx and Dragon Queen are both PC+, so pretty inexpensive, which makes me worry about fitting, and adjustment morphs.
I hope someone has had luck with them.
I'll see what I have when my promo is finished rendering, pretty sure I have Onyx. =)
Here's Onyx.. I removed the marterials so you can see the mesh. I used the knee length dress option when fitting the dress, could have gotten better results using one of Sickle Yield's templates but not everyone has those. As it is, it's not bad at all.. the smoothing modifier workes very well, the mesh was obviously modeled with it in mind. (this is a very very good thing, and not unexpected from this PA, her things are very well made) you'll need to hide the feet and toes of G2F and stockings and then turn collision iterations on the boots to 0 otherwise they stick through the boot.. but minor stuff, the boots converted quite nicely - better than expected. I changed the collision item for the corset to OnyxDress, it had a little poke-through on the shoulder in this pose. (it has adjustment morphs for that I could have used but it was quicker to just change the collision) The skirt and sleeves have movement/adjustment morphs. The purse didn't pop up the conversion box so it didn't conform. I just parented it to her hand, selected its hand bone, and moved it around until it was in a good spot.
I don't have the other two, they were both made by very good PAs >but< they both have capes which are rigged with custom extra bones that you will lose in the auto conversion. It looks like the dresses and other things will work fine but those capes will need to parented and pose instead of fit-to, or you'll have to do some re-rigging tinkering. If in doubt Daz has a no questions asked 30 day return policy.
If you're PC+ (or even not) GET the morphing Fantasy dress.
I use it for pretty much any dress I want to put on G2F.
Put it on G2F, then load the v4 or Gen dress into the scene (not to a figure). Then fit the dress to the MFD (not G2F).
Turn MFD to invis. You have to tinker a bit with smoothing modifiers on both MFD and the dress, but it works great and you don't have any issues with the divots you usually get.
Ok! Sounds good!
I like the way 'Onyx' looks, and the others will hopefully be 'issue' free.
Thanks for the help!!!
