Are my categories gone for good?

I recently installed the latest Daz Studio and my categories have disappeared.  I tried re-importing metadata with user data overrides and that caused DS to work for several minutes, but at the end I had just what I started with.  Am I just out of luck?  Or is there something else I should try?

Note: the content is still there.  I can with much trouble find the products via the smart content tab and use it that way, but I'm not a big fan of the smart content compared with the way I had categorized them myself.  Any ideas?

    there are lots of threads about this installing 4.9.1

    now we have 4.9.2

    dont know if it still happens

    May have found the solution.  I did a database reset WITHOUT exporting user data - I already had a relatively recent export and didn't want it overwritten with the junk now there.  Then after that did a re-import metadata with user data overrides.  The re-import took even longer this time (kinda expected) and at the end my categories were back!  Yay!
