It would also help if some very basic information was provided on how to use search, such as syntax for searches.
Like in my previous example, Edit Hair _does_ show up if you put it in quotes. While that's not obvious, knowing that "Term Term Term" is something to try might help people.
Because the Forum-Search will probably never be improved or fixed, like most people I use Google. That was always helpful in the past.
But being from Europe nowadays with my usual Google Searches there are more and more DAZ-Shop-Pages with somekind of autotranslation poping up. I wonder if thats a Google thing or if this is intended by DAZ?
Those autotranslations are really bad and sometimes ridiculous. It does not help anyone who already knows DAZ and potential new customers stumbeling by accident on those Shop-Page-Translations will not take it serious.
You are just one of us forumites... Aw... I thought you were a DAZ staffer...
I actually had a few suggestions, then I saw that post and realized you were just one of us regular people.
Well, I commend you in your efforts, but I doubt any suggestions made by regular people will be taken very seriously... Unless it's a super critical problem where we find some sales inhibiting bug or failure, I don't think the little amenities really count... Most of what people complain about above has been an issue for some time and it hasn't changed despite repeated complaints and suggestions.
Whats the old saying?... "Good enough is good enough"... Or is it "if it ain't broke, on fire and actively trying to kill you, leave it be"...?
When I search the store, I tend not to use the textbox search at all. I select a category or a vendor, sort by price, and browse that way. Past experience has taught me that I'm more likely to find something I like this way then relying on that textbox, which is often not very helpful. When I was a new user, I was really frustrated with the textbox.
Like many have said, smarter metadata (returning the same results for "sci-fi" and "scifi" f'rex) would be a boon. Having a filter to toggle off PC+ would also help. Like everyone else in North America, I do a lot of shopping online and I think it would really benefit DAZ' programmers to examine how large online vendors outside the CGI market create robust search engines. Just my two cents.
That is true. It is probably not a high priority item at the moment. Based on the comments in this thread, I am inclined to think that it would be in Daz's best interest to help people find what they are looking for, as that would probably help sales (they can still include all the non-related items in the search results too, and thus get those sales as well). But I would imagine they already know this. It may just take some time to get to it. Threads like this can be useful, if nothing than a simple reminder.
I've often wondered why the same database/categorization/tagging/metadata in Connect that's being pushed so hard as being so great isn't used to browse the store?

What would be really nice would be if one could search on the internal folder names.
Yes, I know, nobody does this on products that they don't already own, but like I say, I'm in the middle of a reorg. I keep finding internal runtime folders with names that have *nothing* to do with the product name and it takes any amount of time to figure out what they belong to.
More to the point; one of the markets -- I think it was Rendo -- *used* to have a store search where you could enter in the name of an item, like say, a firescreen, and it would bring up all of the sets that listed a firescreen in their product list. That was very helpful. But I don't think their store still uses that search engine, for running a search over there appears to be eve worse than here these days.
I actually have more luck searching for products in the Daz store using Google. Just type in "Daz3d blah blah blah". Google will usually find what you're looking for. Daz's built in search box. LOL!
Sorry PA_ThePhilosopher I lost track of this thread and didn't see your question.
I'm sure there is a list available somewhere but I doubt it's available to the general public.
I just play with the ones DAZ have used for their sales until they work (or I get tired of the exercise).
The main problem with the one above is it can't be used with CypherFox's Wishlistify bookmarklet. Have tried adapting it but my JavaScript skills rank about even with my ability at ballet.
I'm agreeing with a lot of what has already been said but specifically going to chime in on categories. Even with the current search engine flaws, you can still find things if you know exactly the name you're looking for. The problem is if you don't know the exact name or if you are looking for corresponding products, it's a headache to find anything.
In the filter options, negative filters, like "No Victoria 3" would be good.
An easier way to look for stuff.. like sets/locations en mass.
