ah yeah I've seen that topic crop up a lot I get the argument for both sides on that topic a sort of way around it is having the characters in g string type clothing in the promos unless of course there's a lot more coverage showing if you know what I mean and I am defiantly not prudish when it comes to nudity and I'm ok there are limits here makes me be more creative and an excuse to do different versions of renders I can upload here and elsewhere and in away I think for vendors too it gives them more options on clothing and characters letting them diversify what they offer as they offer content here that is nothing like the content they offer elsewhere and vice versa as it is you often hear complaints here about clothing being too skimpy revealing here and praising up certain other sites funny thing is those other sites have way more of that stuff and more revealing and more of that than normal everyday outfits which some complain about not enough here,. go figure btw I do and fan of fantasy and pinup art so I like skimpy just wish more variety and styles but I want more of everything else too
I agree, people in real life have scars, wrinkles and other imperfections. Which in the real world I tend to not photoshop out when I do photograph actual people.
That is a big part of it Havos since this is a character vendor. While it is true some vendors sell at this store and others, I have seen other vendors I have had an interest in at other stores start to sell here and then sell here only. While I like the DAZ marketplace, I don't view it as the be all, end all of 3D shopping venues and I also believe in choices and spend as much if not more elsewhere (I was bummed when RDNA got assimilated). Plus DAZ already has too much of a monopoly on my hobby since I use their software and figures primarily, LOL.
Anyhoo, I hope the vendor does well here AND continues to sell at Rendo since they have a distinct style and talent.
Ditto - I own all their characters from Rendo and absolutely love working with them. The imperfections keep them from looking "like every other character done by XYZ vendor." They offer a unique look and just work out of the box.

This is Elisven for G3F straight out of the box. I didn't have to tweak at all.

Might be an idea to create a DevArt group (do they have such a thing?) for "adult" promo pics for those who wish to know exactly what they are buying. The reason I say a group is because we could all check it whenever a new character arrives as I'm pretty sure a link to the DA page would not be allowed here either. I do agree though - some have body hair, others not and I think some have AEs but don't advertise the fact.
Beautiful image! I like this artist's characters. I checked out the store at Rendo. Lovely girls, with a unique look. Looking forward to seeing future work by Second Circle.
For me- I like lines to correspond with grooves in the skin. painted on lines like some do on fingers and face don't look convincing to me without some corrresponding creases.
Hey all - really interesting reading all the comments - I'm new to all this so bear with me and I'll see what I can take on board.. So firstly I use photographs to make my textures - I'm a photographer to trade. The lines on Sally were creases in the models skin and left deliberatly as an asthetic choice - I would reckon most of my characters will have flaws in them as thats what I like. I'm used to PSing the hell out of faces to get rid of skin blemishes - is fun leaving some on there. There are a few things I need to get better at - some makeup options sure - I'm working on my own set at the moment that I can essentially bundle with my characters. Same with nails - my bad. Also will try and make sure all the eye options etc are shown. I'm trying to learn fast - gens mats just escaped me completely. I'll start adding them in as I've had quite a few requests. I've two more characters coming out over the next few weeks which don't have gens either, however from there on my characters will be all genned up. Pretty sure thats not a word. :)
I've tended to sculpt my faces and then add detail using the G3F morphs, so eye size is dialled in in quite a few of my characters as its a personal preference. You will find that it can be dialled back down easily enough. Same with quite a lot of the figure stuff. People have their own preferences so I've tried to make it easy for you to change the figure without taking away the essential character - all the body work is done from the G3F morph packs as I see no poin tin reinventing the wheel so it'll give you maximum flexability with her figure.
Anyway- thanks for the interest - I'll take the comments on board and hopefully improve as time goes on :)
Hi Second-Circle. I dont have Sally but I do have Helena. She is a great character and looks fantastic with one exception. The artificial shadow which is painted along the glutes to give the impression of, uh, shadowing 8P... Now im used to seeing that in older and even some current skin textures. For 3DL, I thought that was a great detail to add as it really helped in shaping the glutes. However, and I pose this question to any human texture artist, is that really a necessary detail to be added to a texture designed specifically for Iray? Now maybe my lighting is not the greatest, but in renders where the glute line is visible, it looks artificial.
P.S.
Carly is amazing and jumped straight to the top of my wishlist!
I think you're right. I started out using straight merchant resources and over the space of about the last 6 months have slowly built my own batch of stuff. Some of it is still based on MR some is purely customised. I've pretty much got faces sorted to my liking and now need to spend a good amount more time on body detail and texturing. I think its less prevelant on the G3F textures than the G2F. I have found though that when painting the crease at the glutes from photographs its naturally shadowed. thats likely where its come from historically. I'll try removing it and see what difference it makes. I would reckon you're correct and it'll be cleaner overall.
heh - cheers for that - am pleased with her textures and multiple skin tones with the shaders. :)
Thanks for the suggestion :)
AJ
Wow, very cool! Id very much like to look forward to an update for Helena... If you have the time, of course.
Thanks for responding. I look forward to your future projects.
No worries. :)
For those interested - here are some renders done by the folks over at Elite 3D of her so can you call see her in different situations away from my studio style shots ::)

I don't have any of your characters (yet) but there are a couple of general observations I'd like to make. One is the glute crease - it doesn't look good if it is baked into the texture because it stretches when bent. However, some characters look like the crease has been painted over with a flat, textureless skin tone (no pores or small blemishes) which can also look weird. Texture stretching is one of the persistent realism spoilers for me.
Secondly - gen textures. I'm not sure when they are used. If we use the DAZ supplied gens, the "works" are textureless anyhow - unless there is hair but I'd rather use a prop for that. 3rd Party gens (I'm thinking of the 3feetwolf set) create a LIE texture from the base image anyway.
Lastly, about the face lines, I completely agree that the more imperfections the better. Featureless skin looks airbrushed and Barbie-like - give me lines, moles, freckles and scars any day. Oh, by the way (showing my fetish now, perhaps) I'm always looking for a pale skin with freckles/moles and the hint of blue veins. I'd buy that in an instant. Oh, and older characters - yes please.
I like the imperfections in the skin; love em actually. Prefer gen mats (genned-up is sort of a word; actually if the made up word is understood, then it is a word
), and would also be awesome if there was a no eyebrow option. The option for with and without genitals would also be good.
TY for responding.
Good to know. I'll check these out and make sure to try and get some actual detail in these areas. One of the reasons I didn't think gens was I'd got 3feetwolfs set and kinda forgot that the system he used isn't normal :)
-------
No brows is an easy option as are the gens mats on the whole. There is free gen UV cheat that seems to work quite well over on Rendo - forget who its by but its one of the higest used freebies. For some reason. :)
I wish a few more Daz Studio characters looked like they've seen a bit of life, especially the males. It can be hard work finding suitable candidates for romance covers etc round here - I can't be the only one who the 'just left school' look doesn't do a lot for :)
I actually started on a male G3F character - di some sculpting and made a texture, biggest problem I'm finding is that they're pretty effeminate from off the bat and he was still a bit effeminate for me. I'll maybe go back and toughen him up some more :)
I dont think he looks that effeminate at all. Maybe a little, but not that much. Either way he looks very realistic. Nice job.
I like your male character. I'd probably lower the eyebrows but other than that we've needed a male gen3 for gen 3 female for sometime!
Most definitely NOT one of the only ones who isn't into the just left school look...
:D - i'm on it!
Yes !!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone done a render of SC's new character, Joy? I was wondering how she compares to Sally.
There a few shots of her there not done by me :)

Thank you very much!
I love the one with the little dragon.
I know its very cool. Talented folks :)
Not got much budget this month, but I like Sally so much, that considering using some of it on Joy.
Same budget situation here, I'm debating. :-) I'd like to see a candid picture of her whole face though -- w/forehead not covered.
Only one I've got is one I did in Octane earlier.
All right, thank you again, very much.
