Oh wow, since I own him I didn't even notice he's still there. It's been weeks, so obviously he did very well. Though I still think the sale will have skewed the data, I'm glad to see him succeeding so much.
Not to mention that there is a real dearth of characters over 40 once you get into G3 country. not everybody is doing pinups.
I don't recall asking for a lesson in or questioning basics economics. I simply lamented a recurring "justification". Nothing requires me to be pleased by this or to truly except a justification from data that has never been presented to me.
The problem with justification is that there are a lot of variables that can go into whether people buy a product, including when it was released compared to sales
Like, it's been repeatedly shown that most products have a 'half life' of sales; most sales within first week or two, a bunch out to a month or two, then a trickle thereafter.
If a product is released after, say, a huge sale period (like right now), people might not buy it right away. And then the sales are going to be much lower over the lifetime, because people didn't buy during that initial novelty phase.
There are other things, like what is bundled, the quality of promo shots, etc.
For stuff with many data points, you can look at the big picture. That's how we know about the cooloff, because it affects pretty much every product.
For stuff that comes out occasionally and is expensive, like pro bundles, it's going to be WAY more sensitive to all those variables and sheer random chance.
This is one reason I often suggest kickstarter or something, to reduce the influence of some of these variables.
I take stuff like 'Teen 5 did poorly' with a grain of salt.
Would this 'Lucian' you speak of happen to be an update to the character I found (and got) at RDNA...?
I picked up George just because of the deal I got with little to no intention of using him since I rarely render males. BUT I found that the HD morphs and textures alone were more than worth the price and he is now my go to for G3M textures. This is George without the base George dialed in, using his textures, HD morphs and some G3M morphs.
I agree. Male teens are easy to find in previous generations or make with Zev0's products, but there is no baby or small children under 6. I have the Little Ones who are adorable but they are toons. It would be be great to have a more realistic baby/toddler and children up to 6/8 to fit the gap with appropriate clothes! I haven't tried making a baby/ toddler or young child yet in Genesis 1 but even if it's possible there's a lack of textures (except maybe Thorne/Handspan) and definitely a lack of clothes. Even Kids 4 had very little clothes and most were period style. Not even sure if K4 textures and clothes can fit G1. Probably not. This is all something a PA could do if Daz doesn't want to invest. Thorne? Handspan? Zev0?
Genesis 1 figures include a K4 clone, so all K4 clothing can be autofitted onto it. For Genesis 2 you need to transfer the K4 shape using something like GenX2, and then convert that into a clone.
Speaking of clothing, I'm wondering... those of you who are interested in getting a new male teen figure, what sort of clothing items would you like to see for him?
Cargo pants, sweats, carpenter jeans, baggy clothes, shorts. Young teen boys don't wear skinny jeans. The older ones, like juniors and seniors in high school do. I have a 12 year old, they don't think about clothes as long as they are comfortable, my son hates jeans, much to my dismay. Boys clothes need to be comfortable, loose, and layered.
And maybe some realistic foot wear. Shoes that get dirty. Dirty/holed socks (though this may work better for a tween than a teen). Anything to give it a more real world feel.
I like how a lot of the newer Aeon Soul outfits tend to come with muddy versions etc. now, but not sure if any male ones do?
It made me think of something similar that bugs me - there are lots of hair types available for males and females, but how are you meant to use it for a story or whatever if they can never get it wet? I have many hairstyles I can give a male or female character, and I can even put fancy Iray wet spots all over them thanks to some resources available here, but absolutely no way to do wet hair, especially keeping it cut the same as their original hairstyle.
I think that's more a technology issue than something a PA can really whip up though, if there's even any demand for it beyond me. Mostly I don't bother with hair anymore because I can't adjust it for enough situations other than standing looking pretty from multiple angles.
I finally give up with this, unfortunately I belong to a small group who prefer male teens and I can't do anything against a giant group who prefer female teens. I resigned myself to see in the Daz Store thousands of thousands of female models between women, female teens, female kids, etc. and any male teen and even less kids boys. Anyway, don't expect male teens or kids boys in the Daz Store because they won't do them and we can't do anything about it.
Well, at least a good new, tween is younger than teen, isn't it? Well, it's a little hope after a big failure of my part.
The problem with a lot of the hair models here is that they are too perfect looking, as if the person has just stepped out of the salon. I prefer styles that are a bit more messy, as it looks more realistic for most situations. Posing hair in many situations is near impossible with the conforming hair which make up the bulk of the models here. The problem is not just wet hair, but also for underwater scenes, or simply when the character is in a prone position, or dangling upside down. Proper dynamic hair is really the only option here.
So I'm curious... Brodie and Jayden apparently sold so badly that they aren't being considered ever again, yet they're both in the top sellers brackets for their relevant year right now? There are 50 items on the list for 2014, so how badly must they have sold to be considered bad yet still in the top 50 of a site that releases hundreds and hundreds of products every year? Josie is in 2014 whereas her pro bundle is in 2013 so clearly it's based on some sort of automated list which means they sold well enough to make that list.
I came here to make the same comment. "Male teens sell so poorly, we had to put them in the Top Seller Sale."
Or something like that.
In fact, there's a lot of non-sexy stuff in those sales. Hmmm......
Hell, I even made a thread calling Daz out on David 5 and Freak 5's inclusion, as well.
#Marketing
If you're meaning that it's intentional, they put Josie on sale for a smaller sale than her Pro Bundle in the same event.
They are still low sellers.. David 5 is part of the sale too and we all know where he stands as well. But if you don't have them you can pick them up for a discount. All of the figures are still usable.
Oh well that's interesting. Thanks for the information!
I bought Hiro as soon as I bought Hitomi, but I don't even own any of the others' female equivalents.
Also, my store is on sale that has some teen shapes for Genesis 2 as well if you haven't bought those as well. ;)
Marketing is not relavent at all. This about sending mixed signals. Either they sold well or they didn't. You can''t have it both ways. This almost feels like they are trolling us, look at the email: "There's a reason these are our best selling items." Huh? Just one month ago they make the statement they were poor sellers, and now they are in a "Best Sellers" sale. Don't send mixed signals. There are quite a few characters not listed here in this sale, so does that mean Jayden, Brodie and even David out sold all of those that are not in this sale? I mean, that's the message I'm seeing here, that these are the top 50 sellers in their respective year.
BTW, when you search for Genesis 2 items right now, and sort by popularity, Brodie 6 shows up on page 2, before Josie 6 (page 3) or Xiao Mei. Interesting.
Actually it is, as you don't know how well they sold yet you've been told thar they haven't sold well enough to be made for the next generation.
Huh?
So how can they be DAZ's most popular items? Not even qualified as "some of our most popular items", but boldly stated as "our most popular items" period.
Is this a trial run? Will someone in Marketing be running for a political office soon?
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/90796/top-seller-tuesday-gen-5-icons I don't know how to link specific posts but Daz Steve basically confirmed there that they sold a lot of units at a later discount but not so much money total wise at release.
What's a shame is that there could be so many different reasons for that, or indirect sales because of their existence, or different offers at the time, and all sorts of other things.
I have to admire your products. I have Rayne, she looks a lot like Stacey Dash, and am planning on getting Wagner because he looks so much like Michael Madsen (sp). Was that your intent?
