Is 8.1  better than Windows 10?  I completely skipped 8.1 because I was completely happy with 7,  but I've noticed that Microsoft is telling me everytime I boot up that I can get a free upgrade to 10 up until sometime in June or July. What would be the point of getting 8/1 now?

I use Mudbox, from what I've read it isn't working on 10, and I'm not up for going without it. The bf also does what I'm working towards, and we're both gamers, and he had issues with 10, but completely stable with 8.1, so I'm erring on the side of caution.

16Gb in home, 8Gb in office. Sadly AMD GPU in home and Nvidia GPU in office.

Windows 7 in both, but probably Windows 10 in office next month.

32GB on Win10 x64. I don't actually render in CPU mode, so I'm not exactly sure why I have 32GB...

    Current System:  FX-8370E 8-core AMD 3.3GHz CPU, 24GB ram, Win7-64, eVGA GTX970 GPU, AS-Rock 970 Fatality Motherboard .

Current Build:  i7-6700k 4.0GHz Intel CPU, 16GB DDR4-3000 ram, Win7-64, onboard Intel-HD video, ASUS Maxiumus VIII Hero Alpha Motherboard, CoolerMaster HAF XB Evo case, Corsair H80i-v2 watercooling for CPU.

Current build is still due another 16GB DDR4-3000 ram, and a GTX1080 GPU.....

8 GB on Windows 10. I get by.

The same, but up until about two weeks ago mine was 3 GB and Windows 7 so the current arrangement feels positively luxurious! :)

I've got more RAM that a field of sheep ... lol

    Seriously though...

    6GB (5.57GB useable)

I've got another computer, but I have no idea of the RAM on that one (it should be 1TB - or there about)

    64 GB

Still 8 GB (my boards can't handle more otherwise it would be more) because I've spent thousands on content instead of that new rendering machine I've been planning on building for several years. Like having lots of food but only having a teaspoon to eat with. :P

But I'm actually thinking of building it now, and probably with 64 GB RAM.

8.1 has longer support than 7 if you want to avoid 10.

Newer mainboards and CPUs are generally aimed at Win 10 though, with limited support for older Windows versions (what that means in practice seems to be a bit unclear though) so if your board breaks down you may have to stick with an older "new" board for replacement (if any are available at that time) if you run Win 7 or 8.

Personlly I am pleased with W10.  I am glad I skipped over 8

I didn't skip 8/8.1....  And I didn't particularly care for it; it was too touch-screen centric for my purposes.

I practically never notice the touch screen thing unless I accidently hit the Windows key. With Start Menu X it's hardly any different to older windows versions to me. One thing don't like though is the limitations that apply if you turn off UAC completely (like you can no longer use IE as your default browser). And some of the NET programs I write seem to run slower on Win 8.1 than on Win 7, though I can't tell whether it's the OS or something else that's causing it (have a ton of stuff installed on the 8.1 machine but very little plus no AV on the Win 7 one). Win 10 also seem faster than Win 8 in this respect, but on the same conditions, so I'm not sure here either.

    Windows 10 - 64 GB, Intel i7 6 Core processor.

    My complicated 3Delight renders average 15 - 30 minutes.  I pushed it with 6 people in a 10,000 x 10,000 render which took 1.5 hours.

    16 gb

    Windows 10

I actually liked Win8 on my laptop. I hated it at first, but once 8.1 came out, I completely went the other way and started liking it. It was much faster than 7. But 10 is 8 done right, just like 7 was Vista done right. Also, a lot of 10 really does come from 8, so if a program runs on 8, it almost always runs on 10 without a hitch. So I find it odd that program would work in 8 but not 10.
